Quote:I hope that paranoid kid from the HS makes it. He was pretty wimpy trying to take out the principal walker.
well yea remember no one's been hardened by the apocalypse yet. It wouldn't be realistic at all if he all the sudden became a killing machine.
Some things don't add up with how this was rolled out in episode 1, but we'll see where it goes.
1. Tobias brings a knife to school because he has seen enough online to scare himself poopless. In this day and age, that would be viral and everyone would be freaking out like him.
2. 5 kids show up on the school bus which is normally full. If there was something spreading that quickly, news and the CDC would be all over it. Remember when 5 people got ebola? Or when a bunch of kids got encephalitis from mosquitoes at night football games a decade ago? That would be the lead story. I cannot fully swallow the idea that this is a surprise to everyone in LA.
I'm willing to stretch my suspension of disbelief plenty, but I was hoping for some answers or clues as to what caused the zombie apocalypse. Instead we got character development which could have been sped up if people would simply communicate with each other.
That said, I am excited for the fall of society phase which has already begun.
Loved the development from episode one to two. Really look forward to seeing how all of this plays out. Great stuff so far.
We are getting clues of the viruses origin. Remember in season two when we find out everyone has the virus well it's obvious now that everyone contracted it at the same time. Since Calvin was killed before a full outbreak and he still turned it's safe to assume everyone was infected at the same time only the virus lays dormant until bitten or dead.
Also I think it's pretty realistic while there's viral videos no one takes the possibilities of a zombie apocalypse serious. I thought it was also telling how we saw the one officer loading his car up with water in an obvious get out of town move on his part.
Tobias looks like he saw a ghost in episode 1. In a time where young kids flock to Slender Man sites to spook themselves I have to believe ANY somewhat realistic account of a zombie, even one dismissed as a hoax would go viral within a day or two. And if there is a video (I think he refers to more than one) what was on it? If it was a walker, does the camera guy just run? If they trap or kill it, do they NOT call the cops immediately? There is a lot they don't explain, but his character leads you to believe the clues were all there. It was pretty clumsily done because millions who watched know what it is already. It would have been better if they explained his fear in a way like.. he encountered a walker, but it was somehow killed in a way which made the body not recoverable like falling off a bridge into water or something. Then he has 1st hand experience to justify his fear. But any online presence would indicate thousands of others would see the same thing and have the same fear. That he is the ONLY person who saw this coming is far fetched.
I thought one of the producers, perhaps Nicoterro, said they wouldn't completely reveal the source of the outbreak, or go into that in detail. I wish they would, but it doesn't appear that's going to play out.
I'm fine with not knowing what caused the outbreak, but what they did reveal with the Tobias character's early awareness of the outbreak was done poorly. That's my only point. It doesn't mesh with the reality of our online addiction that only a small minority would know there are zombies. Even if it was debunked, it would have a million YouTube hits. And as mentioned, that many kids and teachers sick would trigger some sort of media response. It was a rocky start. Now let's see how many survive.

That's good imo, I thought the times when the show tried to delve deeper into the zombies and the outbreak (CDC episode, what's his face at Woodbury) it came off as corny and halfhearted. I don't even remember Kirkman attempting to explain it in the comics.
I think some of the crests in this show will be difficult for those of us who've been watching TWD for years. We already know all the tricks and how they're killed. We know how to disguise yourselves, etc. It's kind of like getting the answers to the test ahead of time, but still having to go over the content in detail. WE KNOW THIS ALREADY.
They have some amazing visuals on the show, if not anything else it's shot a lot better than the original.
Im watching it as well, really liking it
It's ok. Makes you think how quickly society would fall apart.
The Army showed up...that'll help....
They're really trying hard to create that sense of chaos. I'm digging it. I wasn't sure what the feel of this show would be, but that's it. The misunderstanding of what is actually going on. it's somewhat frustrating because we all know full well what's going on. The boyfriend or husband is super annoying with his denial of everything, but this is probably what would actually happen.
I did laugh though at the neighbor who was just hanging out on the other side of the fence the whole show and was clearly a zombie but they kept trying to converse with her. The boyfriend is convinced she's just sick. Give her a BC powder!!!!
"Hi Susan", "Susan, are you feeling ok"?
The timing of everything at the end of the episode really stretches the Suspension of disbelief.
So just as they're getting ready to leave, Susan's husband Patrick comes home in time for Madison to see just before they leave. And as soon as he hugs his wife the army pops up behind the door.
Also really not liking the drug addict kid. Or Travis. I have a feeling Travis is going to cause a lot of people to get killed.
My guess is that his ex is going to be the first major death. That scene between her and Madison will take a reversal, with her asking Madison to kill her so neither Travis nor Chris has to do it. And that becomes the point where Madison lets go of society.
The most unbelievable thing is that anyone can get anywhere at all in LA when there are riots and intermittent power outrages. That place is a parking lot most days when fully operational.
Quote:Anxiety level 100+
If you mean this show is causing some heightened anxiety, I agree completely. This version seems so much creepier to me even tho the lack of zombies if clearly way lower than TWD.

Loved how the creators handled the neighbor within the story.
Two things I thought were very effective:
1. The Hospital becoming "ground zero" or a hotspot.
2. The false sense of security everyone will have now that Natl Guard/Homeland has done their sweep and considered things to be "clear."
Everything will now *seem* to be calm when really it's just the eye of one hell of a storm.
Loving it through the first two episodes. Helps fill in the gaps on what this zombie apocalypse looks like while Rick is in his coma.
You know when the Army/National Guard comes in during one of these types of shows, that's when all hell breaks loose. I'm enjoying a lot. To me it's not nearly on the same level as TWD, but neither was the TWD it's first season either. I dig it.
