"Just win, baby."

THEY ARE GOING TO HIRE A FEMALE MASCOT

Quote:I was watching NFL network and one of the guys made mention of the Jags having the smallest fan base. So i guess the question is how do the Jaguars find an untapped fan base? Obviously one way to bring in new fans is to win football games.

1.) Mike Sam? attract the gay/lesbian community?

2.) Hire a female coordinator of some sort? Attract the female audience? The San Antonio Spurs got a lot of good PR hiring their female assistant.

Any other ideas? The only way for the Jags to stay is a growth of fan base. Eventually the stadium lease will end and Shad will be pressured to move the team and be offered a lot of money to either sell or move. So the question stands how do the Jaguars grow the fan base and rejuvenate the team/city?

These are silly suggestions.

Winning.
Quote:As I said clearly the WINNING is the answer but in today's world marketing is key. And well the Jags are not very marketable. Also, what is wrong with bringing in a female coach is she is good enough to do so. Do you consider the Spurs a gimmick?

And on the Sam topic if he never said he was gay he would have been drafter earlier. The guy should have waited till after the draft he shot his own foot.

Also these are just questions no need to get butt hurt. I am also glad non of you are in marketing. I am also glad that I am not.
Sam was given two shots at making a roster in the NFL.  He's out of the league.  It isn't because he's gay.

This lol.. Seems the closer we get to the season the crazier the dead zone gets lol.. But fareal we win more fans will follow.

Crazier, or just a little dumber?

Gimmicks such as those suggested by the OP do nothing to improve the team.  They draw attention to the franchise, but that kind of attention doesn't build any sort of a loyal fan base.  It just creates a passing curiosity that lasts about as long as it takes to change the channel.  The only way to build the fan base in a way that will develop a loyal following is to do it exactly the way this team has ventured to do so.  You build a team that wins consistently.  The more they win, the more attention they get.  The more attention they get, the more new fans they'll pick up along the way.  This kind of fan is far more likely to become a loyal fan than someone suddenly paying attention because the team signed a gay player who stinks on ice, but hey, he's gay so that should get someone excited, right?

The OP is trying to imply this is what San Antonio is doing to attract fans.  That's crap.  The team has won 5 titles in the past 16 years.  That's what builds a loyal fan base.

A little?

I was trying to be nice.  I didn't want to offend the politically correct crowd around here who doesn't like it when people use definitive labels.  But, yeah.  A whole lotta stupid, and all of it misguided.
The Jags already have a gender-neutral mascot.  What more does the the LBGTQ crowd want?

Am I the only one that sees a really really really big difference between basketball and football as far as a female coach is concerned? Men and women both play basketball at a very high level. As far as I know, college football outclasses any female populated football games. This is not to say that a female cannot be a competent football coach, but which talent pool are you going to explore in order to find one?

There is a joke somewhere in there, but I am not witty enough to extract it.

I get what you are saying but there have been coaches in the NFL (Chip Kelly, Todd Haley) that never played football. But it is rare.

I think it more likely you would see a female assistant at a lower level college or high school. Which I cannot remember ever seeing.

Quote:Just an FYI the swimming pools are gimmicks

You preferred tarps?
Last week,  as part of a trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.,  I spent a day in Charleston.   I passed by a couple of stores that sold sports merchandise.   I noticed in the window display that they were selling Cowboys and Steelers merchandise.   There was some other NFL merchandise but it wasn't Jaguars merchandise.

If the Jaguars start winning consistently again and make a concerted effort to market the team on the South Carolina Coast as north as the Charleston area,   I believe the team can increase its following over there by a considerable margin.   Considering the wealth of many people in Charleston,  attracting fans from that area could provide a sizable financial boost for the Jaguars.

I'm not talking about playing, I'm talking about coaching. The OP is suggesting that you bring a female onto the staff in an almost immediate time frame. Thing is, how many truly capable female football coaches exist? I agree with you in that Haley and Kelly have shown that you don't need to have been a former player to at least be competent, even though the jury is still out on them, but both of those men have extensive coaching backgrounds at very high levels. Granted, Haley started in the NFL, but that was due to family ties most likely and he spent ten years as a position coach before he ever became a coordinator.

When you then compare that to basketball where there exists a women's professional League in addition to the NCAA, there is a much deeper pool of talent to draw from as there are simply more female coaches who coach at a higher level than there are comparable one's in Football.

It's really just a matter of numbers.
Small? I don't think 6'3" 215 is small. They need to check their facts!

- "Hey Michael, we don't think you can play but we'd love to bring you in because you're gay." -  I'm sure that would go over well.

- Please give us a list of qualified female coaches that would be a good fit.

Quote:Yes they are.

They also don't adversely impact the on field product the way your suggestions potentially do.

I had a similar disdain for the Tebow suggestions.

Football people need to make football decisions, not marketing decisions.

That pretty much sums it up in a nutshell.

Yes, the pools are a gimmick.  But, they're used to market a section of the stadium that the Jaguars plan to turn into an event destination/venue that will host all sorts of things in the future that are not Jaguar related.  Trying to create a stadium that is capable of generating revenue for the team outside of football is just smart business.  Signing a guy because he's gay even though he stinks as a player because you want to pander is just stupid.  Same thing with hiring a female coach.  You bring in the best players and coaches to build your team.  You don't use either as a marketing tool.
