Christian Kirk and other contract notables
Posted by: JagFanatic24 - 02-14-2025, 12:28 PM - Replies (37)

Normally don’t get caught up contracts but I was interested in what the Jaguars will do with Kirk, Etienne, and Scherff for 2025.

Sporttrac..com is showing that Kirk has received a couple of GM/Workout bonuses in 2025. I forgot that he restructured his salary in 2023 and converted that into a signing bonus. He did the same thing in 2024, and soorttract.com is showing that he did it again for 2025. Kirk holds a 8.7% cap hit, which is the highest on the team.

I’m hoping this means Kirk will be with the Jaguars for the 2025 season. Kirk, Thomas, Engram, Washington and Lawrence gives the Jaguars offense plenty of fire power.

If Kirk is released post-June 1, his cap savings would be around $10.5 Million.

The Jaguars are in decent shape in cap, ranking 15th in the NFL, even though Walker Little is the 4th highest base salary-paid Jaguar, while Armstead is 5th.

If Scherff is released = $13M cap savings

If Hamilton is released = $4.3M cap savings

If they can trade Etienne = $6.1M cap savings. He signed a 5th year option in April of last year. As of right now, he has a cap hit of $6.1M, while Bigsby will only cost the Jaguars around $1.2M in 2025.

  Anthony Campanile named Defensive Coordinator
Posted by: JagFanatic24 - 02-06-2025, 01:26 PM - No Replies

He was the Packers linebackers coach in 2024. Packers were 7th in defense against the run. He was also the Packers defensive run game coordinator.

The Packers ran a 3-4 defensive scheme in 2024.

Tony Boselli named Executive Vice President of Football Operations
Posted by: JagFanatic24 - 02-04-2025, 08:14 PM - Replies (10)

This is a fantastic move by Shahid Khan! Hall of Fame Left Tackle, and former #1 overall pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars will be your new EVP. Coach Cohen will report to Boselli, as they will bring in a new era for the Jaguars.

Boselli has been a great ambassador for the franchise ever since he retired from his playing days, and he has good relationships with personnel guys across the league.

It’s a great day in Jaguars franchise history. I’d rather have Boselli bringing in talent over Baalke any day.

Good luck Tony.

Fred Taylor vs Ricky Watters HOF
Posted by: JagFanatic24 - 02-02-2025, 05:43 PM - Replies (9)

They are the only 2 running backs to make the Finalists for the Pro Football Hall Fame 2025.

Here’s a look at their numbers and accomplishments.

Ricky Watters:

5 Pro Bowls, 1 Super Bowl. Led the NFL in 1996 for the most carries with 353. His highest rushing yards in a season is 1411. The most TD scored in a season is 13. His highest total yards in a season is 1855. His longest run was 57 yards. Career average is 4.1 ypc.

*made 2 Pro Bowls with under 1,000 yards rushing.

*made 1 Pro Bowl with 1,013 yards rushing in 1992

*Rookie Season = 1,418 scrimmage yards with 11 TD

Career scrimmage yards -14,891
Career rushing yards - 10,643
Career receiving yards - 4,248
Total Touchdowns - 91
Career Rushing TD - 78
Career Receiving TD - 13

—————————————

Fred Taylor:

1 Pro Bowl, 0 Super Bowls, Led NFL in average rushing yards per game in 2000. His highest rushing yards in a season is 1,572. The most TD scored in a season is 17. His highest total yards in a season is 1,942. His longest run was 80 yards. Career average is 4.6.

*scored 17 TD with just 12 starts, and didn’t make the pro bowl in 1998.

*had more yards than pro bowl EB Eddie George in a year where Fred didn’t make the pro bowl. (I don’t feel like looking it up)

*had more yards than Corey Dillion in another year that Fred wasn’t selected. (I think 2003)

*there was a year that Bettis had 941 yards rushing, and made the pro bowl over Fred who had over 1200.

*after looking into Fred not Pro Bowl enough, there was at minimum 3 seasons where he should have been an absolute pro bowler. And it could be debated that he could have made another one, which would have given Taylor 5 to 6 Pro Bowls. If anybody needs specifics on that, just let me know and I’ll dig up my information.

*Rookie Season = 1,644 scrimmage yards with 17 TD

Career Scrimmage Yards - 14,079
Career Rushing Yards - 11,695
Career Receiving Yards - 2,384
Total Touchdowns - 74
Rushing TD - 66
Receiving TD - 8

JagFanatic24’s thoughts: Corey Dillon is lucky he made the Pro Bowl in 1999 with them 6 rushing TD’s, if Fred plays all 16 he would have doubled that. Taylor had just as many rushing TD as Dillon that year while missing 7 games. The 2001 season would have given Taylor everything he needed to be a no-brained hall of famer. If Taylor didn’t get pulled in the 2nd quarter of the Dolphin playoff game in 1999, he would have rushed for 280-300 yards. How in the world did Tom Coughlin allow Stewart to start any games over Taylor and why in the world did Mack score any TDs in any season other than 2001. All of those TD could have went to Taylor. Then Del Rio comes in and does something similar with Jones-Drew. Plenty of those TD could have been given to Fred for everything he’s done for the Jaguars.

With the way the NFL is today, Fred Taylor’s franchise rushing records could stand the test of time. He was an all-time great that was respected across the league and every defensive coordinator knew what Fred could do on any given play. Fred scored on the first offensive play of the game or busted off a 60+ run in about 10 games.

Fred was famous for the “look back” whenever he broke one. There is a clip of Taylor “looking back” from the 37 yard line ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE 50. If you want that game and clip, let me know.

This dude was an all time elite, jump in mid-air like a Jack rabbit to give you a peek-a-boo to freeze you enough so he can get the corner and absolutely run away from you and leave the defenders reaching out and a finger never grazes his jersey type of runner. Fred had instant speed and he could glide when he needed to. He could run sideways as fast as he could straight on. When Taylor’s jersey started bouncing when he got in stride, it was game over - he was taking it to the house. So many 50+ yard TD. Just electrifying. I wish he could have half of those games back to injury. He missed 55 regular season games which is 4.5 seasons of PRIME of his career football. How did Taylor only have 2 rushing TD in 2002. How do some of these coaches get jobs in the NFL, he’ll put me out there and we’ll play some dang football.

Anybody that knows football would pick Fred Taylor over Ricky Watters in any category, game, anything. Watters is not the pedigree Taylor is. Taylor is on another level.

Jaguars 2025 Draft - I think it comes down to 3 players, and a look at other players
Posted by: JagFanatic24 - 01-31-2025, 03:15 AM - Replies (6)

Travis Hunter won’t get past pick 4, so he’s not considered unless he falls 1 spot like Jalen Ramsey did in 2016. If Hunter is there at 5, he’s the pick. If not, here are the 3 guys the Jaguars will be eyeing:

1. Mason Graham DT (Michigan)
2. Will Johnson CB (Michigan)
3. Will Campbell OT (LSU)

I’ll throw in 2 wildcards:

1. Mykel Williams DE (Georgia)
2. Malaki Starks S (Georgia), if the Jaguars can trade back and accumulate some extra picks. If Starks is off the board then Xavier Watts would be just as nice.

Graham would be able to step in immediately and help a position of great need, and the value is there at pick 3.

Johnson will turn out to be the best CB from this draft class, and he could step in and start week 1.

Campbell could give more flexibility to a group that has seen Little play Guard and both tackle spots over the last couple of seasons. This pick would allow you to put the best 5 guys on the field. The value is lacking but the upside is there.

I’m not a “needs draft guy” but I hope they do something with that secondary. Defensive tackle is just as high on the list. If you decide to go heavy on secondary, you can get creative at DT with Free Agency.

Underneath defensive tackle, the Jaguars defensive ends unit is bare after Walker and Hines-Allen. If you want to be a playoff team with a chance to beat any team in the league, you gotta get after the QB. This is another position that can be filled through Free Agency.

Find a way to keep Christian Kirk. I know his contract don’t match the productivity, but he’s shown what he can bring to the table. Giving Lawrence 2 capable receivers in Kirk and Thomas, along with a Pro Bowl tight end will do anything but hurt him. Add the water-bug Parker Washington and Brenton Strange to the mix and that gives you a nice receiving unit.

Bigsby led the team in rushing, and it’s time to see what he can do as the premier back. Last season the running game hurt this offense in some big ways. Tank is a reckless runner in a good way.

Washington should be your full time return man. Punts and Kickoffs. Duvernay and Davis is not needed.

I’m ready to see what Maason can do at DT with a full 17 game season. The potential is there.
