Welcome Liam Coen the Jacksonville Jaguars new coach and I want to eat crow!
Posted by: OG-JAGFAN - 01-24-2025, 01:11 AM - Replies (86)

I gave Shad a ton of crap about keeping Baalke and losing out on their targeted coach.  Ben Johnson was never on the table because Chicago and Ben had that worked out a long time ago.  How else do you explain one day after his loss he gets the job in Chicago.  Good Job Shad with firing Baalke and attempting to get a good young OC with your young Qb.  It it fails this is not on Shad because I think most right now are in agreement this is a good move.

It's pretty much a done deal.  There is just too much smoke here to not see the fire.  It's reported in many circles and now Schefter is reporting it.  I think this is a great move to get a new culture here in Jacksonville. An offensive minded coach who has already proven he can fix broken QB's in Mayfield maybe what the doctor orders.  Let us hope he is the play caller as well.

Donovan Ezeiruaku had 16.5 sacks last year. I think he would be a good mid round pick to come off the edge in pass rushing situation. Hes a lighter player and would be a good change up. Mike Green would be another mid round pick for our 3rd edge, he had 17 sacks last year.

  Backup QB

The mac attack was a uhhh,  uhhhh, [BLEEP]

Noodle arm and interception machine, with his option not taken up someone else is required.

CJB again is a option, he is a okay backup, at least he has a better arm, however I honestly think we should sign flacco as our backup qb, some reason he always tears us up plying against us and he did lead cleavland to playoffs 2 seasons ago.

Drafting is another option, but finding a gem in the later rounds is honestly not worth

  Defensive Identity?
Posted by: AnOldBrownie - 01-14-2025, 12:06 AM - Replies (78)

Well, I'm sitting here watching the Los Angeles Rams defense make Sam Darnold look like the old Sam Darnold.   Sending 4...he holds the ball for 7 seconds and gets sacked.   Blitz a CB or safety and Sam gets sacked because he couldn't read the blitz.   Inaccurate on a lot of passes because he looks like he has happy feet.

As much as I dislike Press Taylor's offensive scheme...Ryan Neilson, and Caldwell to a lesser extent, never seemed to make QBs uncomfortable.  Never seemed to turn anything up. Never seemed to actually have a defensive plan as to how to 1. stop a team that was determined to run or 2. Get a team off the field on 3rd down at a high enough percentage.  Sure, there were games where the Jags were recipients of turnovers (under Caldwell) but I never saw them actually fly around on defense like the Rams are doing tonight, or like the Lions have done in a few games this season (they've had a ton of injuries).

Over the past three seasons, without causing turnovers...the defense has been bystander at best.   Yes, Josh and Travon have been good as a duo.   Kinda Batman and Robin on an island of misfit toys.

The next incoming defensive coordinator will have to do something different and what pains me is I don't know what the heck a new guy can do with the pieces..that for 3 seasons...have underperformed against above average competition.

DTs...not one guy on our squad listed in the top 32 in the league.

Linebackers...   meh (including Foye over his 3 seasons) Lots of tackles, but not nearly enough for loss or for little gain.

Secondary... inconsistent...quite often out of position.

...  The defense needs a new identity.  Unfortunately I don't know what it's old identity is.

Round 1 -- BCS vs NFL

For all those that complained that the BCS Round 1 was terrible and there are too many teams (12) in the playoffs, I introduce you to the NFL.

For the record, I'm all for more teams being in the playoffs with an extended playoff season in all sports.

The sheet

Congrats to the hydra of BLT, cland and snowy for their regular season win! True prognosticators, your knowledge of the AFC South is unrivaled, at least for this season.

The playoffs give the AFCS a chance to defend their honor, or at least say nuh-uh when everyone else points and laughs at our sadness.

So last week cland took the lead picking the upset(?) by the hometown horns, but we're just having fun at this stage. Especially this week, the expectation is for straight chalk, and there's not going to be a lot of opportunity to make up a large amount of ground on the field due to the limited schedule. Picks don't matter, so go crazy!

This week I'm taking whoever is playing against Houston. I don't even know if it's Chefs or Ballimer or Fluffalo, all I know is none of them are led by postseason choke specialist Just Inner Bert.

Apologies for misaligned columns, tabs don't translate and I'm not using a monospace font.

The regular season of the 11th Annual TWITAFCS ended in a three way tie for first place! Congratulations to Byron LeftTown, cland and snowwolf776 for get 40 of 56 picks correct! These diehards made sure to get their picks in every week, and probably regret that they weren't throwing down real cash at one of them sketchy gambling sites, given their success. Good luck finding a crown that fits three heads at once, guys!

The make your picks matter prize goes to unf_nashvillian, who hit on a whopping 77% of their picks! carp8dm narrowly trailed at 75%, but only made 4 picks. unf kept that mark up over 48 picks for the season. While you admire your plaque, you can only wonder what might have been if you didn't miss a few weeks along the way.

We had 19 participants this season with a lot of pickers fizzling out as the season drug along. Maybe that's because the division was not too exciting, but we'll be back for season 12 and I'll try to announce this in other sections of the board (mods willing) to see if we can lure a few members from other places into the deep dark dungeon that is the AFC South section. This is one of my favorite things about duvalpride, Bullseye is a legend for getting us started over a decade ago. As long as I can, I'll do my part to keep it going.

Of course, the NFL is nice enough to let every division into the playoffs, so the AFCS still has picks to be made. I think it's best to keep that aside on its own for giggles, since we have a limited opportunity for picks and I also think the winners of the regular season deserve recognition. We'll keep the picks going, but I think everyone mentioned above deserves to be called a champ. Well done!
