Quote:I honestly don't remember hearing anybody back in 2005 say they wanted Rodgers. More common were Heath Miller and Mark Clayton. There was a lot of hype around Jones going into the draft. Sports Illustrated did a featured story on him. The pick was pretty well received in Jacksonville.

Yea agreed.  I also remember some Marlin Jackson love being thrown around.  But definitely Clayton the most.  I would have been pretty pleased with Clayton had we taken him.  (And not just cuz I was a fan of the Marks brothers back in the Marino days).

I seem to remember the initial reaction for most folks, including myself, was shock.  But then most folks got on board pretty quickly.  And again, when he caught that one handed bomb in his first home preseason game, that crowd wents nuts.  I think after that catch, 95% of the fans were on board.  Even after the first regular season game he looked pretty dangerous.  Was either the first or second drive of that game they ran an end around where he gained like 30+ yards.  And then they had him line up in the wildcat.  Ran a few times.  Completed a pass.  Caught a few balls.  He looked like he was gonna be a real weapon for us.  Was all downhill after that first game.

I wanted Heath Miller in that draft because I felt (and still do feel) like a true three-down Tight End is a rather tough guy to find. When Jones' name came up, I remember being initially disappointed but I talked myself into his versatility and his athleticism. The way he moved through Defenses while in College sold me on the idea that he was going to be a good broken field runner.

I wish the guy could have gotten himself straight. It's such a waste how much talent he had.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
