O-Line Observations

#21

Quote:BTW, PFF charted us with 46 passing plays, with 3 sacks, 4 hurries, and 3 hits on the QB for 10 total pressures.

That ratio put us at 14th in the league at Pass Blocking Efficiency with 82.1%. Right behind Indy coincidentally.

To elaborate on that look how we graded out in run blocking efficiency:

<a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2014/9/10/6130533/jaguars-pro-football-focus-offensive-line-worst-run-blocking-grade'>http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2014/9/10/6130533/jaguars-pro-football-focus-offensive-line-worst-run-blocking-grade</a>

Dead last in the league.

And certain posters want to put the blame on Gerhart...

I probably should've included that but I didn't think it was in question that our run blocking was terrible. Good addition.

Quote:1. What game were your observing? JQ was arguably the worst o lineman out there.

2. Zane Beadles was arguably the best O lineman this past Sunday, which isn't saying a lot as the entire line struggled to generate a push in the run game. All in all, he's average to above average G.

3. I agree, he didn't play well on Sunday, and his blocking has been overrated for a couple of years now.

The weakest spot on the line right now is C, followed by RT (Cam Bradfield is awful), followed by RG. That entire group needs to be upgraded with more physically talented men; the group simply lacks talent and physicality/strength.

1. Yes McClendon had a few bad snaps which have to be fixed.  However, when watching who gave up pressures, he did suprisingly well.  I didn't watch every single offensive snap (probably 20+) but figured that's a decent sample size.

2. Is your assessment based on watching the O-Line specifically and evaluating each person?  There were several plays where Beadles whiffed, missed his assignment and even got blown up on one play (straight up ran over).  I was expecting Beadles to be solid based on what we've heard but he didn't look the part at times.

Quote:McClendon got a -8.0 rating on PFF, for what it's worth. For context, that's a really bad grade.

PFF isn't a reliable source for information on O linemen.  They have no clue what assignments were or whether or not they were missed.

That being said, Lageman rolled the tape and observed a good game by McClendon.  That reinforced what my eyes told me as well.

Why did Lageman think McClendon had a good game?

Something interesting that I haven't seen reported anywhere. Heard this today. Evidently, Beadles is playing with a calf injury that's giving him trouble getting leverage and pushing off.  He's playing through it, but he's not 100% or anywhere close.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
