Regarding the one I've quoted:

Fisch deserves some blame there, but so does Henne for not adjusting/calling pass at the L.O.S.

Also worth consideration here is the team's desire and need to establish the run. With youth at receiver and a young Qb waiting in the wings they are trying hard to establish a run game with a new #1 RB. Perhaps they tried a bit too hard to feel this out a few times.

I agree with Henne taking some blame too.  Between Fisch and Henne, the team is not running the best possible plays.  In fact, they are too often running plays that are doomed.  For example see below...

Fisch called 11 running plays to the right (behind the weakest part of our line) for 17 yards with an average of 1.5 yards per carry.

We ran up the middle 4 times for 16 yards with a 4.0 average.

We ran 8 times to the left for 19 yards with a 2.4 average.

Why did we run behind the right side so much?  And why didn't we run up the middle more?  I just don't understand the play calling to be honest.

Interesting and informative stats.

Certainly there is much to be learned from them - but considering the recent shake-up along the o-line and short sample to evaluate - they may not have been able to deduce yet that running to the right would be so tough.

I'd imagine that they hesitated to run the middle more because of McClendon's inconsistency in the preseason and having a rookie next to him.

I agree on your thinking...however, I think McClendon will be OK long term.  He actually looked like a big boy out there.  He wasn't perfect but he also wasn't the problem most of the plays I watched.

I hope you're right on McClendon.  I'm not convinced yet, but he's better than Brewster and Bowanko might need some seasoning.  If he doesn't play "solid" consistently - I wouldn't be shocked to see Bowanko take over late in the season.
