You can get a free trial of it I believe and the basic stuff is enough to play with and see if it's worth paying for. Yeah - I'm not sure on that. Most guys I know are using Ableton and all kinds of wild trigger pads. Akai still makes several versions of the MPC sampler and there's a free beat making software that comes with it I think.
