Very good trade

I think the funnest part of last night was we stuck around the bar a little longer than expected, since one of the group is a Buc fan. He ended up P.O.'d that he didn't get to enjoy any pick, and we left with a smile on our faces knowing we made a fantastic deal and got a dang stud for our D.

Didn't see the compensation until I got home, and boy I felt even better after that. Great move.

Most of my talk has been about the depth and flexibility/versatility drafting Neal and Ekwonu would give to our offensive line.

Assuming they hit on Walker, they have effectively done the same with the defense, especially the LBs.

I think Lloyd plays primarily inside, but has rushed plenty of times from the edge in college.  That could give us five decent to good edge players:

Allen
Walker
Smoot
Key
and Lloyd.

I feel much better about the first round now than I felt immediately after the Walker pick.

Still needs help for Trevor Lawrence now....but a decent day 1.

Yep, I believe we were on the same page going offense. I had not thought of applying that to the defense. They did say it would be a surprise.  I don't think they wanted to trade up but did as it became apparent Lloyd was not going to make it to 33. For those of you who thought it was highway robbery what we gave up to get to #27.

#27 = 680 points

#33 = 580
#106 = 82
#180 = 17.8

Nice -- good point .... wonder how the TB Bucs draft party went down in Tampa  !!!

I left the bar around the 10th pick to come back home and watch the Steelers pick then was planning to crash out but things got exciting with all of the WR trades so I kept it on only to see the Jags being listed as the Next Pick .... I'm like HEY, WAIT, WHAT !!!   Thank God they didn't blow that pick

That's supposed to be a cornerstone pick, for an edge it better be a 15+ sack a year guy, LT a Boselli-ish guy(all pro or pro bowl talent), QB a generational guy etc etc. He's not that, we selected a role player 1st overall.

That’s the dilemma the Jags were faced with, though.  Based on the evaluations, there really weren’t any cornerstone players in this draft.  Obviously there will be players that can and will start from day one and there will be players that can and will make the Pro Bowl, but that consensus, dominant, generational player just wasn’t there.

Here’s an intangible that people don’t think about.  Where do you think Walker really wanted to play, and where do you think Hutchinson really wanted to play?  Walker is Bulldog and gets to play in Jax.  Hutchinson is a Wolverine and gets to play in Detroit.  I know these guys are professionals, but they’re also human.   One big upside with Walker is that I think he really wants to be here.  I’m not sure that Hutchinson did.

Now I’m not going to lie.  I like to play it safe, so I would have taken Hutchinson.  However, I can’t really lambaste the Jags for swinging for the fences when there wasn’t much else out there to be excited about.

I don't agree with that.  Hutch would have been happy to play anywhere as the #1 pick.

Travon actually looked disappointed (or indifferent) that he got picked by the Jags.

Very rarely though do you get an even deal if you are moving up into the first. Usually you're expecting to give 10-15% over value to get the player you covet.

That's a big reason why the Vikes deal was so very, very bad. They lost value AND they took the L to a division rival in the process.

Agreed. He was worth the trade up for when he dropped that low. He will be an elite player in the NFL.

Disagree here. I think he looked stunned and then he started smiling.

Yeah he looked shocked at first that the chatter of him at 1 just became reality and then he looked happy.

I forget who it was, but there was a guy that genuinely looked pissed he was drafted by us within the past few years.

Or overwhelmed by the moment.

It's every football player's dream to be the first pick in the draft.

Henderson's family and friends also looked concerned and disappointed.  As if he had already discussed not wanting to play in Jacksonville with them.  Walker's family and friends all looked happy and supportive.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.
