His job as a NT is to clog up the middle, not be a main threat as a pass rusher. Can he get better at pressuring the QB? Yes, but that isn't his first job as a NT. Nobody else on the interior has did jack [BLEEP]. Smith has shown flashes of it, but they've only let him play in like 5 games.
Where's your metrics on his marks at NT? I checked an ESPN ranking on the win % against the run. He's not in the top ten.

Not too bad. Just outside the top ten against the run.

I don't know, just watching Hamilton today and it looks like he's getting pushed back and is out of position frequently. DT is definitely a huge need next year, which is disappointing given the resources devoted to that position group.

I still think it has to be OL, QB or DE.

It's:

CB
RG
S
DE
LT
WR
DT

In that order above. I still think we should be eyeing McMillan at WR or Johnson at CB inside the top 5.

I am looking at Xavier Watts in RD2 and Kevin Winston Jr. in RD3 at S.

I think there's good, multi position lineman to be had in RD3 and RD4.

While DT is a need. You still have Armstead next year who needs to play at DT. You have a 2nd year Maason Smith who flashed off and on, you have a 4th RD investment in Jefferson and you still have Hamilton.

Better secondary play with better coaching would have resulted in some of these one score losses being flipped into wins.

Can’t agree about Armstead.

Stick a fork in him.

Honestly, I could think of several players that have disappointed. But then again, I wonder if it was just the coaching staff putting the players in the wrong places, wrong plays, and wrong mentality.

We were a 9-8 team 2 years in a row. And then all heck broke loose. I wonder if it was just the culmination of bad coaching.

With that said, Cisco and JHA were the 2 on defense that didn't get better on defense.

On offense, I think ETN was hurt more than any of us will ever know. There were interviews with ETN on post game that made me feel like he was playing with a concussion throughout the year.

It was just a poorly managed team. We never really had a roster that was clicking like they were coached well. I can't blame the players for this season. It would be like blaming chess pieces for being placed in the wrong position.

I think you have to focus on both lines first.  Mason Graham is a beast at DT and with Amstead in steep decline, and Hamilton not playing the same since his back injury, I'd say DT is the top need.  If Maason Smith progresses, you have a solid combo at DT and maybe that will free up JHA and Walker to get more sacks from the edge.

RG/C is probably the next biggest need, with Scherff likely to either retire or get cut, and Mitch Morse steadily declining as the season wore on.

CB is deep in the draft so you can get a good quality depth player in rounds 3/4.

I am not passing up on McMillan for anybody other than Travis Hunter if he slips for whatever reason. Just can't do it. Fix everything else on day two and three. They have the picks to move back up into the draft if needed.

Hamilton has been one of the best run stopping NTs in the NFL this season.

That's great when the pass D lets everything by them.

I'm gonna mix it up. I agree that Armstead and Gabe especially hurt because we overpaid for guys who put up dook for stats.

My nominee? Maason Smith. We spent a 2 on the dude, didn't see the field early, gradually started to play, but throughout the season all I could do was be reminded how we completely failed to bring in any of the top interior line talents in a year that was overflowing with potential picks. Had Smith been killing it out the gate, the sting wanes, and you can at least defend the move with some short-term positivity.

Here we are again, OL is still a vulnerability, and this next offseason doesn't look nearly as deep at the spots we could use. Oh, and DL looks pretty deep, too. Ope..

Trevor Lawrence
Travis Etienne
Anton Harrison
JHA
Tyson Campbell
Davon Hamilton
Cisco

These are the guys responsible for a 4-win team. They’re the ones that are supposed to be instrumental in getting us to the playoffs.

Campbell is not the problem here in that Secondary.

Campbell's issue is staying healthy.
