Dave Caldwell 26th best GM in league

#41

Quote:The 26th ranking includes Beadles and Gerhart.

He should have gone after Louis Vasquez and Adrian Peterson instead.

DE Ezekiel Nana "Ziggy" Ansah had 15 sacks last year went 5th overall instead of Luke Joeckel in the 2nd overall pick whom is on the trade/cut block, the Jaguars would already have an elite edge pass rusher in Ziggy.

or a Pro Bowl DT Sheldon Richardson (Jets) drafted 13th in 2013, in fact over 17 Pro Bowl players were drafted in 2013 yet GM Dave Caldwell missed on almost every single round that year...

He had a great 2014 draft though! and Greene in 2015 was a nice steal at pick 139 (5th round) too early to tell with Yeldon (not sure why you sign Ivory if you were so sold on TJ), and Cann struggled at first but finished solid at RG to be above average.

If you take 2014's draft out many would probably have cried for Dave Caldwell to be fired (because of 2013's draft, poor free agency turn out, and sticking with Gus Bradley without demanding OC/DC be fired after only winning 3 games in his 2nd year after having only 4 wins his first)...

I think 26 is probably exactly where he should be until this year shows some true progress (the flashes of passing was nice towards the end of last season, but the Defense was so horrible that it was hard to appreciate it).

Ivory is easy. Yeldon is still young. And building a line to pass block. Instead of run block like in past. Cant have great at both time. And Ivory can still find holes in that scheme. Yeldon is still learning.

I guess I mean they say its to ensure that TJ isnt overworked, and most felt he did good in his rookie year.. but the Jaguars had no real goalline RB either mabye Ivory is that insurance..

Funny thing I read;

As Bortles explained during a Thursday visit to PFT Live on NBC Sports Radio, when he saw the 904 area code on his phone during round one of the 2014 draft, he assumed that a friend was calling him, not the Jaguars.

I don't mind the rankings. But it's hilarious how badly this critic contradicts himself.

So he goes onto say that obviously his best selection was Allen Robinson. Okay, that's fine. Can't argue that.

Then he goes onto say that Julius Thomas was his worst signing? How do you figure that? Thomas only played in what? 10 or 12 regular season games last year? And during a certain stretch you could see chemistry developing between him and Bortles. It's WAY too early to make that decision on this signing.

Now, the best part. He goes onto say he appreciates the slow burn and hard work Caldwell has put into rebuilding this team over the last three years. But it's not enough. DESPITE the fact that we're recovering from Gene Smith, who he deemed arguably the worst GM of all-time.

Just think about that for a minute. Whoever wrote that for USA Today didn't do enough homework or think things through quite yet.

As far as our worst signing? Can you really throw Gearhart on there? His contract was more security towards our cap than anything. It's not like we suffered any signifcant fiancial setbacks on that one. The worst signing I think you can say so far in his three years is probably Zane Beadles maybe? Zane didn't really pan out at the LG spot. I don't recall us really breaking the bank for him though. But by far, he was a let down during his tenure here.

This writer is a dumb !d!ot. Lazy Sl0b. He gave Ryan Pace on his second year a pass to 14th place for not spending too much money. In his first year he draft Kevin white who didn't play a game.
