You're trying to pencil Lamar into the stereotypical QB hole instead of letting him be him. This is why Harbaugh is coach of the year. He's not trying to make Lamar run Flaccos offense but is instead playing to Lamars strengths. (11-12-2019, 12:08 PM)Cleatwood Wrote:(11-12-2019, 11:56 AM)Kane Wrote: I realize this... The Pats certainly couldn't contain him so what makes you think another team is going to make him stay in the pocket and throw? OK... Guess we'll revisit this when he's no longer a new QB in the league in a couple seasons and see where his progression goes. I'm not penciling in anyone, the NFL adapts. He won't always have a great running game or great OL and a very good defense. At some point the kid won't have it as easy. Anyone remember that playoff game against the bolts? He didn't look good. As I've said above... he's playing great, way better than I ever gave him credit for. I don't believe he'll be able to be successful long term running for as many yards as he throws for. The thing is Lamars pocket presence has always been a strength of his, even through college. His weakness is throwing outside the numbers as he's elite in the MOF. Will that harm him going forward? Maybe but he has way too many positive traits not to overcome it. He's already a DCs nightmare without that being a high level strength. That's why comparing his first 16 games to Dalton and Weedens doesn't make much sense, nobody was scared of either QB even if they might have thrown for more or as many yards. Andrew Luck threw for more yards in his first 16 games but DCs would take playing him every day.
So Caldwell has passed on Mahomes, Watson and Jackson... at the time when we had no QB...
I remember when certain posters told me that Mason Rudolph was better than Lamar.....

Oh a bunch of us (us, because I was in that group) It's actually highlighted in the bringing up old threads thing in the home board. Most of the time, most of us board GMs don't know what we're talking about. Rudolph is not good. lol I was wrong about him (and AJ McCarron, and Mettenberger, aaannd......) Just another QB pick that bites the dust. I havent always been right, but when i have, i can only imagine/dream of the success this franchise would be having with the roster we would have.

Agreed but do u think our GM and HC would have went out and gotten Greg Roman to run an Offense like that for him? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
I remember when our draft pick was coming up, and I got made fun of for wanting to the GM to select Lamar Jackson, instead selected just another guy Taven Bryant Please hire me as the GM so I can take this franchise from laughing stock to respectability.

I was stanning hard for Will Hernandez. Knowing our luck, if we picked him, he'd have gotten some injury that required a leg amputation or something. We just gave Blake a shiny new extension, anyone even thinking that QB was in the plans was delusional. That's the point. We should have made plans to take QBs in 2017 and 2018 but didn't. Which is why we have Foles We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! That's kind of backwards though becuase the only people who were gonna draft Jackson had a rational vision for using him..not saying we or anyone would have done it effectively as the Ravens, but the act of drafting him in itself would have been a drastic change from the franchise. Much in the way that DeFilippo was hired to design a playbook tailored to Foles, a coordinator could very conceivably have been hired to compliment Jackson had the F.O. elected to go that route. I wouldn't just assume they'd have totally miscast LJ's skillset. Harbaugh and company definitely got it right though. That's for sure. Hard to imagine Marrone and company pulling that off so well regardless of which OC they may have landed. |
