There are 4 very winnable games in the first 5 weeks after the BYE. Get the Oline healthy. Get Fournette back healthy. Get back to that swagger and underdog mentality on D.

This franchise has a bad history of having people in charge that are stubborn to a fault. They stick with the wrong players and compound it by avoiding the better draft able prospects.

Couldn't have said it any better. I wish Shad would've told Dave that it's OK to admit that Blake is not the chosen one and that Dave wasn't 100% tied to Blake's success. That might've freed him up to admit mistakes and draft Mahomes, but then again maybe not. I doubt the coaching staff would allow Mahomes to sling it around like KC does, so people would probably be questioning his talent if he were here.

No we wont because we will win a few meaningless games still playing our starters when we should be sitting them already this year and playing younger guys and back ups save our starters for next season. Sucks to be in this mode again already but hey we are used to packing it in by about week 5-6 anyway every year so time to call it for this year IMO.

Its all about the division. AFCS is weak. 

Houston sits at 5-3, but they have some difficult games ahead which could easily be losses for them. Could you see them going 4-4 or even 3-5 in their last 8 games to get to 9-7 or even 8-8?  It's very possible. 

Tenn is a big questionmark. 9-7 or 8-8 is possible for them too. 

Yeah, it looks a lot bleaker for the Jags, but not over. They'd have to go 6-2 rest of the way to get to 9-7. Not impossible, but very tough. 


Jags absolutely HAVE to win their 4 remaining division games though. 
Colts 2x, Titans, Texans 
And get 2 more wins somewhere else:
(@Bills, Redskins, @Dolphins, Steelers) 

Can you see them beating any 2 of those non-divisonal games? Sure, I can; especially since they get Pitt and Wash at home in Jax. 

The chance for a wildcard slot is likely gone. Those 2 spots will probably come from (Chargers, Steelers, Bengals, Ravens).
But this "eliminated from the playoffs" isn't accurate, not yet. If they lose a divisonal game,,,, yeah, it could be all over. 

Playing on a short week Thursday night is always tough for the visiting team. The Jags have to come through @Tenn. They have to.

Short summary:  Division is weak. Jags are still in contention for it, but have to win all AFCS games and get tacks/tinhorns to drop a couple  more. 

If Jax drops a game to the Colts in the next few weeks,, I'll remove this post, lol.

Sure, it’s still possible, but I think you’d probably agree that it’s unlikely now.

The Texans remaining schedule includes games against the Jets, Browns, Colts and Redskins. No game is easy, but the way the Texans are playing, they must be favourite to win those.

Meanwhile we can’t afford to lose more than two games and have a schedule which includes the Steelers, Titans and the Texans themselves.

And I wouldn’t rule out the Titans making a run either.

And then there’s the big one for me - we simply have two many key players lost to injury. The Texans haven’t (at the moment) got that problem.

What happened last time Caldwell had a high draft pick for a QB  :puke:

In all fairness, that was a terrible year to draft a QB. The top guys were Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater and Carr. One is out of the league, one is a lifetime backup and I remember people on the board cringing when Carr was mentioned, because his brother was a failure. He's not that much better than what we have. I don't know if anyone in this draft class will pan out, but since the team ignored what I and others here wanted to do and draft a QB from the 2018 class, we're now put into a position where we have to find a way to replace Bortles sooner, rather than later.

Early on it looked like Carr was legit and maybe he still is.
But yeah... looking back... that was a terrible year to draft a QB.
Although, the next draft isn't looking so much better. Ms. Mary and Jameis both have just as many questions about their game and ability as we have (bet neither gets extended like Blake did though)

Truth is.... with QB... you just gotta keep going back until you land one. 1st round... 3rd round... you should probably select one every draft in some round or another unless you have a for sure, sure-fire, starting/franchise guy.

We absolutely gotta draft a guy this year, even if they are gonna give Blake another shot... there should be a mid round selection for QB. Maybe a 2nd or 3rd...

You draft QBs until you have a QB and then you draft them so you can trade them. That doesn't mean dropping 1st every year but this is an offensive based league.

The window shut just about as fast as it opened. Now, there is talent here for sure, but there needs to be immediate and aggressive action this offseason to find a new QB and sort out the above issues.

Unfortunately , I'm not sure this front office is any good at self scouting.

IDK what league you watch wiki but professional teams don't rest healthy players trying to get a better draft pick.

That is a loser's mentality... and while I'm not surprised MANY fans on this board think that way, I would be sick if our front office or coach staff did.
Pack it in? SMH...
Making the playoffs and losing in the first round will always be better than missing the playoffs.
And while having the top 5 picks almost guarantees a very good player for years..... it doesn't actually guarantee anything.
See... Joker, Bortles, Fournette (and that is just OUR top 5 failures)

I think things could turn around rather quickly for next season (this season is about lost, but I still want to see effort from the guys we do have...)
Bringing guys back healthy next season and finding a way to upgrade QB and WR would do wonders.

I think we could see a shake up in coach staff though.
A lot of things can change with the meat of this teams talent (mostly on D) still intact. 
I think the so called window gets tighter and tighter after 2019 when they really gotta start making money moves.

The window is shut until the QB position is sorted, and that's gonna be very hard to do in one season. As I said the talent is there , better coaching /injury luck can improve things but overall it's all about that one spot.

Yeah I'm probably on that side of things with Hackett now even though I was a fan of what he did last year given the resources. I think he could have a good offense with a QB upgrade but can't see him ever having a top 10 unit

We are 12th in defensive points allowed but 29th in offense. Honestly if we had just produced a bit better the past 4 games it wouldn't feel so bad.

Carr is garbage. He hasn't been the same since his back injury. Waste of any draft pick/s and especially money. Terrible contract for a bad QB.
