QB options next year

You're not paying 21 million for Blake to be a backup.(11-29-2018, 12:08 PM)Cleatwood Wrote: Ummm Colt McCoy is the 6th highest paid backup and he makes 3.6 million. So... Yes you can. Foles is the highest paid backup at 9 million dollars. And Colt McCoy is just fine. Depending on how Kessler plays the rest of this year, he could start the season next year. I know it's hard to comprehend that Blake may (and most likely will) be gone next year but the team needs to move on and I believe they will. So do a lot of other people including people close to the team. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Your math is really weak.....They are already in the tank for 16.5 mil either way.
Sorry you cant deal with the FACTS. Did you watch the Washington game, he was trash. I'd rather save 5 million, pay the 16.5 million to Blake in dead money and move on. I'm not the first person to suggest this and a ton of other people close to the team feel the same. It's time to move on and the process has already begun the second he was benched.

People are so focused on Bortles that they fail to realize that there is A LOT of thing that NEED improvement on offense for ANY QB to have success. Right now, with the injuries on offense a “cheap vet” nor a rookie would be successful across multiple games. I would not want to move on from Bortles with just a “Cheap Vet” and a rookie QB on the roster knowing I am only saving 5 or so Million by cutting him and maybe gaining nominal QB play improvement.
People forget that Bortles was the most sacked QB in his first two seasons and y’all wanna throw some 4 mil vet out to the wolves or even worse the rookie QB!? Seriously!? ? that’s how we ended up with the current version of Bortles! We need to keep three QBs going into next year. Kessler, Bortles, and a rookie. Sit the rookie and invest heavily into the offense the next two drafts and then 2020 start the QB you draft and THEN cut Bortles or Kessler. So pay Blake 21 million, pay Kessler his 1 million and then pay the top 10 rookie QB money?! The team has already moved on from Blake with a cheap vet. What makes you think they wouldn't do it to start the season? Not to mention the Jags could be looking at a new HC and you can most likely assume they don't want Blake in their QB room. Yeah, I’d Keep him on the roster for only 5 million extra as a precaution to not ruin a rookie QB by throwing him to the wolves if Kessler gets hurt... I feel like we’ve already witnessed that episode, multiple times. Let’s be patient and ensure proper development of the rookie for at least a year.(11-29-2018, 12:57 PM)USCG_JAG Wrote: People are so focused on Bortles that they fail to realize that there is A LOT of thing that NEED improvement on offense for ANY QB to have success. I think it's going to be Winston. Eli is old and weak. Flacco has a hip of an old lady. Tanneyhill is fragile as paper.

I don't care about the sunk cost of cutting or keeping Blake. I do care about not wanting a rookie QB to be anywhere near observing Blake and his awful mechanics, release, etc during practice. I would much rather him learn the fundamentals from Kessler, or damn near any other QB.

I think best case scenario is that the team finds a way to win three games with Kessler and Milanovich and they enter camp with a top draft pick, Kessler and Lee in the QB room. Though I’m sure your best case scenario is different and involves tanking. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Blake will be cut with the June 1st designation costing us much less. BB5 is BBGone
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!

When did QBs start learning throwing mechanics from backups? Is Chad Henne to blame for Bortles throwing mechanics? If we are drafting a QB that is not hyper confident in his arm, I want nothing to do with him. (11-30-2018, 02:31 PM)Upper Wrote: I don't care about the sunk cost of cutting or keeping Blake. Although I'm sure Bortles is gone, I think it's ridiculous to assume that a rookie is going to 'catch' Bortles' bad mechanics. Your base mechanics are already developed by the time you reach this level. I can see some minor tweaks being made. But if you can acquire someone else's mechanics, why is it that Bortles, Leftwich, Tebow, and many many others never 'caught' good mechanics. ![]()
I think the Bengals situation is an interesting one to watch. Lewis and their coaching staff is probably gone after this season. Dalton can also be cut without a cap hit prior to 2019. I could see a new regime decide to move on from Dalton with a clean cut and draft a QB while rebuilding that defense which may take a few seasons.
Dalton is by no means a elite QB, but he is definitely better than what is in Jax right now. If he can be average, you can still rely on running and defense. It also gives the Jags some time in case they don't like the 2019 QB prospects. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Those who understand binary and those who don't.

But since then he has done nothing but disappoint, and that is even if you don't think the Uber thing was anything serious. I don't think Jameis is a real leader like Baker Mayfield. He has the arm, but man, he's just fake or something. (11-30-2018, 05:16 PM)rpr52121 Wrote: I think the Bengals situation is an interesting one to watch. He's not the worst, but I'd hate to try to build a championship contender with him under center, but I don't think you do either.
