Elway seems especially enamoured with Drew Lock which would be very on brand for him.

Atlanta should. They won't be this high in the draft again until it's rebuild time probably.

Grab a QB. Matt Ryan ain't getting no younger. You get the 5th year option. Options.

They won't... but they should.

He's only 33, I think they'd be crazy to take a QB who might not play for 3 years, especially when they need to win now.

I somewhaat agree with Kane you get them when you can. Probably won't but the smart team plans ahead. In other words don't be where we are.

He's only 33 but not even a top 5 QB anymore really
I think he's got 2 seasons left (2019 and 2020) before they can dump that contract he got.
They could get Haskins, sit him 2 years and move on from Ryan before dumping any more into a QB that is quickly sliding from former MVP to fringe top 10.
He isn't the talent some other QBs in the league are. I don't see Ryan playing into 40 like Brady. He'd be 37 if he ran the entire contract out.

Like I said... they won't, but I think they should.
They could use rounds 2-4 to address a lot of other areas like OL and D.
They were hit hard with injuries, they'll be bouncing back and won't be picking this high again for awhile I'd imagine.... just saying, a shrewd GM uses times like this to roster talent for the future.
If nothing else, you have trade capital in a couple season (either Ryan or a good young star likely to get some mop up time like Jimmy G)

He's having one of the best seasons of his career despite lots of injuries on Atlanta. 5th in passer rating, 70% completion, easily a top 10 QB this year. Was never a top 5 QB bar his superbowl year so thats not really a knock on him.

I just don't buy the notion that he's quickly sliding into the abyss. He looked awful in the season opener but since then has been on a tear.

He at least has another 3 season of high level play in him. Espeically with Julio, Ridley, Hooper by his side. As much as i like Haskins it just wouldn't make sense for them to do.

naw... everyones just used to drafting a QB high out of need.
This crop is perfect to sit on if you have that ability.

It isn't a waste when your team doesn't have too many glaring needs and likely could make a smooth transition later.
2...3 years. Hell the kid has 5 years on rookie money, would be a great back up if Matty is hurt....

Drafting a QB isn't a statement on Ryan's season, it's a plan for the future.
Julio, Ridley, Hooper... good weapons, solid RBs... I mean.. is there a glaring need outside of OL help which can definitely happen in any round.... defense has a lot of good pieces too and was hit with a lot of injuries.
It's the perfect storm for a team like ATL to take a really good QB and make him a really great QB when he finally starts.
Hell... they could do it with a kid like Finley in another round too.

My point is that they should plan for it and they won't because GMs are too short sighted... much like your opinion on the matter lol

For a year? Sure. You don't draft a QB top 5 to sit him for a few seasons though. At a certain point you need play time to develop further (yes Aaron Rodgers) Good luck telling fans they won't see their high draft pick play for 3 seasons.

The Falcons have glaring needs across the Oline and Dline, the kind of needs that require first round draft picks.   Good luck selling them on drafting Haskins and Ryan Finley (lol) when Matt Ryan is still playing lights out and they have a window open.

No I see the reasoning for it, just doesn't make sense for the Falcons situation, pretty sure most Falcons fans would agree too. If Ryan was actually declining you could make a stronger argument for it, not when he's playing very very well and is still a top 10 QB, should be for the foreseeable future too.

Julio will be gone before Ryan is gone.

Let's also not forget that this might be the deepest DLine draft in a long time. No chance Falcons take a QB. If they draft high enough, I actually think they could trade down (still in the top 10) and gain more picks to fill their needs.

Josh McDaniels knows talent when he sees it

...there may be some substance to this.  Colt McCoy gets his first start in ages, and the league breaks his leg...how many times he broke his leg while sitting on the bench?

Not sure if you guys are all familiar with it but a site I like using is www.tankathon.com . It's got a lot of cool stuff on it related to drafts for the NFL, NBA, etc.

Yeah especially with other teams needing a QB..they could move back and still possibly pick up a Quinnen Williams or Ed Oliver

Jets putting up a fight trailing 15-16 against Houston and Jason Myers misses the 2 XP that would have given them the lead. Damn him, even away from Jax he finds ways to upset me lol

1-arizona
2-san fran
3-oakland
4-jets
5-Jax

We are in the 5th spot!! No one above us needs a QB, only oakland might want one. Don't know what Gruden does.
LOVE THEM JAGUARS!

Couple of big wins helped us. Atlanta over Arizona, Bills over Lions (huge)

Looks like the best we can realistically hope for is #3 right? We definitely still taking a QB that high? I might try and trade back into 1st rd for one if there is a gamechanger available there. We have the extra 3rd from the Rams and our 2nd pick to maybe go back into the teens if Herbert/Haskins are still there. I’m not even mad about Lock or Grier Rd 2 or later Rd 1

If SF could finish this upset and win one more, they would fall behind us.

I was wondering if we would pass them.

The top 5 (w sos) and remaining schedules;

1. Arizona (3-11) .522, vs Rams, @ Seahawks
2. Oakland (3-11) .562, vs Broncos, @ Chiefs
3. NY Jets (4-10) .502, vs Packers, @ Patriots
4. 49ers (4-10) .504, vs Bears, @ Rams
5. Jacksonville (4-10) .551, @ Dolphins, @ Texans

Crossing my fingers that the Raiders beat the Broncos next week along with a Jets win over the Packers.  I don't see any other upsets coming but a top 3 pick for the Jags (moving up above the Raiders w their sos) would be great.
Taking it to the top of the Modis building.
