Bortles could be as low as a 5 mil. cap hit next year if a team were to sign him for 6.5 mil.  I think he needs to start next week and hopefully he balls  out to where a team will sign him.  The more he makes next year with another team the more it saves us, up to 6.5 mil

No, to starting Bortles next week if we don't have to and no to keeping him in 2019.

Why do you have a reading comprehension problems in so many posts? I never said I want to keep him for 2019.  I would love for him to ball out next week though and give another team hope

It will be great to crap on the Texans next week. I don't care about draft order because we screw it up way too often. We are cursed. We need something unexpected to happen and that can happen outside the top 5.

Irony would be Bortles winning walter award from the bench. Not happening but just saying.

I read it correctly. I don't want him to "ball out." Draft position is way more important than saving a few dollars. Bortles having a great game next week just further screws our draft position if we win and gives some "die hard" Bortles fans on this board, false hope that he could've been a solid starter in 2019. I could care less about his cap hit to us. It is what it is. The team gave him that ridiculous contract and they're gonna have to find a way to eat the dead money. I just want this horrible season to end.

And if Blake tears his ACL what do you do then? Teams are gonna sign him regardless of what he does next week. His salary will be a minimum of 5 million next year

Will they? I'm not so sure it'll be that easy for him to find a job. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe he will be on the street for a while, until some team suffers a major QB injury like Alex Smith did.

He will easily find a new job. Blake may be a low end starter at best but there are very few backups around who are better than that  + he's a former top 10 pick + he has started and won playoff games + he's still pretty young + 5 years starting experience + durable + great running ability + size teams like etc etc

Oh you're absolutely wrong and there's no question about it.

Bortles is a 26 year old QB with 5 years of experience. He'll have no problems finding a new team if this team releases him.

A 26/27 year old QB is basically a baby in today's NFL.

I'm not worried about that.  Blake is like a machine and one of the toughest QBs this league has ever seen.

I'm not sure where you are getting the only 5 mil cap hit. Bortles is guaranteed 6.5 mil in salary next year which would be offset by the salary given by the team signing, but we would still have 10 mil left on the amortizing of his 15 mil signing bonus which we would have to eat next year. We paid the full 15 mil of his signing bonus and only 5 mil of that has counted against us on this year's cap. There is no way we can get that other 10 mil off our books.

We can do 5 mil in 2019 and 5 mil in 2020 if cut after June 1st

They're gonna pay 20mil for a backup QB?

[insert Bortles joke here]

Foles will sign a big deal somewhere, but it won't be here. I don't see him as much of an upgrade.

After all, all of the what ifs about last season was that we likely would have won the SB if we could have won the AFCCG. That means we would have easily handled ol' Nick, right?
