That should be against the rules. Beat me to it. The only thing I’d add to the franchise tag after the option would be, I’d hope the eagles FO and Foles have been in talks and are both 100% on board with how it’s handled. After all, the dude won you a SB. At first glance, it does seem shady. This way Foles gets the opportunity to get paid and the eagles get some sort of compensation. And I totally can see the Broncos going after him as well. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
I read on Yahoo Sports where the Dolphins are expected to cut Ryan Tannenhill. I could see us signing him to a 2-3 year modest deal, where he could be a bridge QB to Haskins or a placeholder until we get a franchise QB in 2020. He's not much, but he'd be a modest upgrade from Bortles and he wouldn't cost us any draft picks if he's released. I really think it will come down to Tannenhill and Flacco for us, but only if they are released. I WOULDN'T give up picks for either one.
According to NFL Network TV Foles is to have Franchise Tag and on the trade block for third round draft pick. Jags have an extra. It appears the dominoes are falling with the Jaguars definitely a contender. Do we get him? How high are we willing to go?

Giving up a 3rd round pick and having to sign him to a $25-30 million per year contract is just too much. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Every 3rd round pick isnt a Yannick but I dont go in to the draft thinking like that. If you trust in you scouts and your evaluations you feel you can get that next gem So you'd give a very early 5th for Foles but not a very late 3rd? For the chance to become the 2nd best team in the league with a top 10 QB? Just seems a very odd stance to take. Only a round difference inbetween those two values and the rewards are massive

I think it's clear you dont value draft picks the way I do. A 3rd and a 5th is a pretty big difference to me. If they would take a 3rd, why wouldnt they take a 5th since it's only a round difference? Like I said, there always has to be a limit on a player, I think the big contract is enough for me, I dont want to give up high picks and give out a huge contract. If they want a high pick they should take Lock and call it a day (02-03-2019, 02:35 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote:(02-03-2019, 01:59 PM)JackCity Wrote: So you'd give a very early 5th for Foles but not a very late 3rd? I certainly wouldn't value a jump of 30 something picks more than I would the chance to land a QB who would make us the 2nd best team in the league. Especially when we have no QB. Foles would make us contenders for years

If the Jags go after Foles, give up a 3rd round pick and pay him $24m+ per year, I'll gladly be counting the days until this entire front office is fired.

I just have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach how badly such a decision would end for us. I want nothing to do with them paying him $24m+ to begin with because I don't think he's that good, but giving up that pick as well would just push it way over the top for me. Why do people keep talking about the Frachise Tag? The tag means nothing other than the Eagles have to trade or cut him. He won't be playing on the 1 year tag offer for the new team. He is getting a new deal or holding out. He is 30 years old and this is his only chance for a big deal.
I wouldn't trade anything, but anything more than a 5th is too much unless they are taking Bortles contract, so the Jags save a little more and the Eagles can cut him without much impact. Sent from my SM-T820 using Tapatalk
Some guy on the Eagles board said he has good Intel that it's a 2 and Ramsey for Foles.

You can only trade a franchise player after they sign the tendered contract. But if Foles decides to hold out on the Franchise deal, the deadline for a long term deal is in July. Basically, Foles has no real leverage to hold out a for a long term contract in that scenario. And if he does, he would basically be pulling a LeVeon Bell and likely hurting his chances of playing well in 2019 and signing a long term deal with any team in 2020. If Foles wanted to hold out for a long term deal, Foles best play would actually be to NOT buy his way out of the current $20 million dollar contract. So instead of the $24.5 million - $2 million, he gets the $20 million, and it becomes guaranteed on March 18, 2019. But now there is no deadline for him to sign a longer term deal. He can hold out through training camp. It gives Foles more leverage. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! The frachise rules only apply to the team that tags him. The Eagles cannot afford the tag, so him signing it would force them to immediately trade him. The holdout has nothing to do with the Eagles, he will not be on the Eagles. He can holdout if the team that trades for him doesn't give him a new deal. Once traded he is on a $25 million 1 year deal and he won't be playing on that after being traded. He either gets a new deal negotiated before the trade is finalized or he is holding out if they are stupid enough to still trade for him without a deal. For the Eagles trade him after franchising him, Foles has to sign the Franchise tender. You are then trading a Franchised Player contract and have follow those rules. It's what the Dolphins and Jarvis Landry did last year. (02-03-2019, 06:54 PM)Eric1 Wrote:(02-03-2019, 06:44 PM)TheO-LineMatters Wrote: Agreed. What would Foles net the Eagles in a compensatory pick? If they tag to trade him, the pick in return would have to be higher than that. |
