On Topic ... If he did stage the attack, he had nothing of real value to gain and everything to lose.  I don't understand the need to bring down the MAGA slogan to the point of risking your own credibility, your morals, most of all your future.

This whole story is just another in the growing list of liberals/democrats/progressives/socialists trying to put conservatives and President Trump into a "racist" group.  They know it's not true so they have to manufacture these "incidents" and immediately post it to social media since that's where much of the populace seems to get their "news" these days.

Just my opinion, but this loser Smollett should be charged with a "hate crime" among other things and put behind bars.

Mailing a letter to yourself with a threatening letter and some crushed up aspirin is, too. I don't see a hate crime in it, and it doesn't seem like law enforcement does either, but there's plenty of evidence to hit him with a felony and a few years in the clink.

I was being snarky but you do bring up an interesting question.  If a white male does something similar towards an african american would that be considered a hate crime?

Personally IMHO there are no "hate" crimes.  Crime is crime regardless of what motivated it.

No, I don't think it would be a hate crime. Staging an attack against yourself is not a hate crime. I mean, unless you hate yourself, but that's not really a codified thing.

I would consider any crime driven by a desire to intimidate or harass a specific group of people to be a hate crime. For example, if you kick the crap out of a Jewish guy, that's not a hate crime. That's just you kicking the crap out of someone. If you kick the crap out of a Jewish guy while telling him that Jews aren't welcome in (insert place), that's a hate crime. It's one of those wonderful lines that you know when you've seen it, but can't really articulate exactly where it lies.

I put "hate crime" in quotes for a reason.  I don't believe that there is such a thing except in the world of MSN and social media.  The guy is clearly doing (tried to do) what many on the far left including liberal media want people to believe.  They push the narrative that President Trump and anyone that supports him is "homophobic" and "racist".  That is simply not the case, hence why so many stage "racist" or "homophobic" crimes in order to try to make their point.

If he did set this up to target a certain class of citizen, then I don't know what else you would call it. I do agree, leave the hate crime out of it (for all crimes). A crime is a crime, but there seems to be a big fat desire to use hate to elevate crimes against Religious beliefs, Race, Sexual orientation, Gender, Political affiliation ... etc.. If that is the direction we are going to go as a whole, then he did commit a hate crime (assuming he did what has been alleged). I personally don't like that road.
