So the question now becomes $18 million for Foles versus $5-6 million (draft slot for Top 5 pick) + however much your "bridge" QB will cost (Tyrod and Bridgewater will cost at least $6-8 million) + giving up at least a 3rd round pick.

NONE of these QB's are going to be elite QB's in the next 2 years, which is the window for the current crop of defense players. This team needs fill some holes no matter what to have any chance in that time frame, just for example at WR, TE, OL, ILB, 3rd down back, and possibly Safety. Without filling those hole, making the playoffs, much less getting to a SB will be difficult in this window.

So by passing on Foles,  you are giving up at least a 3rd round pick to save $6-7 million. Are there difference maker FA's that fit within that budget? Is that trade off really worth it? With that space, the Jags have room to keep Parnell (average RT) and maybe add re-tread or depth signings.

I know everyone wants the promise of the next future "franchise QB", but even a franchise player needs other pieces on that team, meaning finding comparable players to defensive players the Jags will lose within 3 years. Even then, most franchise QB's only win 1 SB. That option will always be there in 2 years, and while Haskins and Murray definitely have hype, there is nothing assured of them achieving that status.

Interesting. If I knew how to give you a rating point, I would.

Ones a raw rookie, the other would be settling into a new team. Would Haskins be given a learning spell or would Foles be expected to hit the ground running?

You'd have to lower expectations for a rookie, big time.

If they want to "win now" as they claim to, they'll sign an impact veteran regardless of what they do in the draft.

Imagine if they do not land and start a veteran, and Haskins has an Aikman rookie season.

Will fans be bailing on Haskins and labeling him a bust too soon?  Would the team be nervous?  Would Dave finally get fired and they draft again?

My thinking is we do what we can to get Foles which hopefully does not mean trading picks. But, if we miss on Foles... that changes everything because there are no other "impact vets." Haskins as a rookie would probably be as good as any other vet we could get, and if he can't start right away we still do have Bortles (unless we let him go and get Fitz instead for maybe a tad more than it would cost to keep Blake)

The bottom line here is that we'll know the answer on Foles well before the draft, and that answer will help determine what we do in the draft. With Foles on board, we don't need the rookie to start right away which IMHO eliminates trading up for Haskins, although we still might get him if he happens to fall. But if we missed on Foles, you almost have to think Haskins at all costs, although I still can't bring myself to give up more than what it would take to get the #3 spot.

I forgot about Murray.

I'm not trading up for Murray, but I'd consider him at #7 along with Lock depending on our starting QB situation. That is, I feel Lock has the highest upside with his arm, but you do not take him unless, and I stress UNLESS, you already have Foles. If we end up with only Blake or only Fitz on the roster, then I'm only really looking at trying to get Haskins or Murray. No way do I risk Lock touching the field as a rookie.

Just stating a fact.

I'm not a huge Haskins fan. I'll be all in on him if we draft him, but I wouldn't go selling the farm to move up for the guy. But, I'm not a scout.

If anything, Lock was easily the best looking QB today for me, and sounds like that's a popular thought as well.

Who cares? QB's are supposed to throw, not run.

Everybody but Stephen A. Smith knew Haskins was going to run slow, that's just not his game. He's a true pocket QB.

Hah, if Ramsey is tweeting about it then Haskins is gone, Jaguars usually do the opposite thing he tweets lol.

Seriously, I'm on board the Haskins train since a few months but I don't think we'll get him.
I feel like the team may find "the cost and opportunity" with Foles a much simpler route to follow: his market his not there so you probably can have him for much cheaper than it was thought a couple of months ago, you have all your draft picks so you can draft a playmaker at 7 (or trade back a few spots which is what I'd try to do in that situation) and also he's available for you in FA so all you have to do is beat a not so tough competition probably.

With Haskins at the moment you have no control over him being there for you unless you trade up to the number 1 pick (or n. 2 if the Cardinals don't want to move out of there cause they are set on Murray) who is obvoiusly not really likely to happen giving how much you'd have to give up probably.
And even if they trade up (I think you have to move up at least to 3 in any scenario if you want to make sure he's there) they'll have to give up draft capital to build around him which is something risky considering the state of our offense. I wouldn't hate it, I just don't think it's that likely to happen at the moment.
I could see them doing something like this if they actually think they can fill out a couple of holes on offense in FA (for exemple a Saffold over a RG in the draft? A TE in FA instead of investing a day 2 pick? Just throwing out some exemples) and are not too worried about the WR group.
It's just that at the moment I feel like they might see the Foles for 15-18M +all the draft picks scenario more simple and doable, they'd have to think Haskins is just a so much better option at this point to go after him and risk it considering it's a win or get fired year for the FO.

What could change the above reasoning is if there are 2-3 QBs they are fine with in the draft (don't think they are going after Murray but let's say they are ok with both Haskins and Lock for exemple) so they know they'll have one of them there at 7 or if they move up at 5, in that case I can see them not going after Foles but with a cheaper veteran (Keenum, Tannehills, Fitzpatrick, whoever) and the rookie.
But since this is the Haskins vs Foles threadI'm not commenting on this last scenario, if it's between those 2 I think that at the moment the Foles route is the one they more likely go with. And being one who hopes we get Haskins I'm also trying to calm down my expectations so I won't be too disappointed lol.

Haskins is my guy in this draft and I hope we move up and get him! He seems to fit this team much better than the others. I liked Lock after watching the Senior Bowl and he had a good workout. But I wouldn't take Lock in the top 10. Go get Haskins Dave and TC!!
Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!

Haskins was throwing deep balls at the combine like it was nothing.
I'm leaning to drafting him and keeping BB5 while we build other parts of the team.....especially O line
and receivers

Lean as much as you want to Blake but he’s not coming back.

HaHa......or even better if we end up with Foles.....along with DK Metcalf....then we'd be good for the 2020draft that's better for QB....and BB5 can go where ever
