The tag is a terrible idea. You sign him to a long term deal so that his cap hit isn't insane. Giving him the franchise tag will kill this upcoming salary cap.

Just to play devil's advocate here.  So no one on our line is doubled so that Yann gets a favorable matchup?  I assumed Calais and sometimes Dareus get doubled but maybe i'm watching reruns of previous years.

Rewatching Jax/Cin and the amount of extra attention the Bengals threw at Yannick Ngakoue is reflective of how offenses viewed him. Rarely was there not a TE or RB helping the OTs on passing downs


Of course there is a limit but if the plan is to keep him long term, throwing the franchise tag on him is a waste because it kills your cap.

I'll add as well! The play where Yannick had a TFL of about 8 yards, he lined up standing playing almost a 3-4 OLB. Goes completely unblocked. I've been watching how we use our front 4, especially now with Allen and in preseason Wash saying how he had options with looks.

The Jags rank #6 in the league at their win rate of holding blocks at least 2.5 seconds at a 61% rate. 

I think is we had maybe 20% more pass plays being called designed to get the ball out quickly that number could improve. I remember one of the sacks that Norwell gave up, Minshew held the ball for at least 4 seconds, and I think we need to cut down on those instances.  Take advantage of having a high rate of pass blocking for that 2.5 second threshold.

Robinson was crushing it in run blocking but getting beat in pass protection. I forgot Ogbuehi played about 60+ snaps Sunday. I think that's as good a compliment as I can give him, I completely forgot. He did well.

You don't need the all-22 to see what's happening with the DE.  He's almost always on the screen until the pass is released.  Same deal with Norwell.

You don't need the all-22 to see what's happening with the DE.  He's almost always on the screen until the pass is released.  Same deal with Norwell.

Multiple angles make it much easier to figure double teams and twists/stunts accurately. Sometimes the broadcast angle shows you something and the endzone view changes your mind.  Different lateral perspective from sideline to sideline.

Yeah, the fact that Minshew improvises (holds the ball) at times inflates the perception they aren't holding up, and of course there are some quick pressures allowed too.  Folks just may not realize that not all of them happen that quickly.

Yes... I've noticed a number of times in the Nola and Bungles game that Minshew has an easy 3-5 yards with LF in the flat or a TE crossing that he ignores or doesn't see looking downfield.

Sometimes the kid just needs to take the easy yards and help his OL out too.

I always yell "quick" when I notice he's had the ball for what seems like longer than 3 seconds.
It's like my football tourretts. I can see the pass rush hold hold and then start to cave, decision should be made by then.
This is why they probably move back to Foles when he is healthy.  But yeah, Norwell is easily blown up twice a game. As is Taylor (or he is caught holding at least twice lol)

I don't think the $ was the issue, based on the rumors we heard.
It was a short term deal he didn't like.
They probably offered a 3-4 year deal with a 2 year out and he didn't like it. (maybe 4 year 80-90 mil but a 2 year out making his real gtd like 40-45---im super guessing)
If they come back with the similar style deal I doubt he likes it. But I don't know why they wouldn't wanna lock him up longer. 5 year 100 mil 50 gtd (with a 3 year out) seems fair to me.

But what do I know lol

It's the guaranteed money. It doesn't matter how many years it is. He wants more guarantees, but 100 with only 50 doesn't matter, it's still only 50 because they can cut him.
