Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Russell Wilson is black and says it is very important. I think it is an important milestone. I also think Teddy will be the 3rd to win one with the Jaguars.

Quote:James, how many times do I have to say it? Russell Wilson was not the second black quarterback to win a Super Bowl. He was only the second starting quarterback to do it. That is an important fact to remember because although Byron Leftwich (and maybe others) did not play in the Super Bowl, he did get a ring. What the [BLEEP] are you talking about. Any minority should be proud of these type of accomplishments. It was an accomplishment when Jackie Robinson became the first black player to play in the MLB, Jesse Owens became the first black olympian, it was an accomplishment with Dungy became the first black headcoach to win a Superbowl. All these are important if you consider the context. Just 60 years ago, blacks were drinking from colored water fountains, getting hosed, hung, forced to live in complete segregation from whites. If you go further, roughly 250-300 years ago blacks were still slaves. Every event, every milestone should be celebrated. We've come a long way. This goes for hispanics, asians and everyone else.

Russell Wilson is not the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl, so your argument does not hold water. When someone is the first to do something, yes, it matters. It was a major accomplishment for those guys because they were the first to do it. Being the second is less important than being the first. Also we are much more accepting as a society than we were when the "first time" happened.
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Martin Luther King, Jr. perhaps he should of added unless they do something of worth. then make sure you point out the color of their skin. Ive never understood the philosophy of wanting to remove race from the equation, as it should be, but then bringing it up over every little thing. have your cake and eat it to, I guess. either this should be a color blind nation or not. pick one.
Quote:"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." - Martin Luther King, Jr. That is what I am saying. Don't judge Russell Wilson's accomplishment on his skin color. Saying, "Wilson is the second black quarterback to win a Super Bowl," is judging him on that. To truly be a colorblind nation, we have to stop saying stuff like that and only judge Wilson as a quarterback, not a black man. We show less advertisements to registered users. I don't see anyone making a big deal of it. It's notable, but not ground breaking. Given the history of our nation, that's a good thing.
The bottom line is that Russell Wilson seems to be a good man. We'd all like to have that in our epitaph, wouldn't we? Even Bunnie.
If something can corrupt you, you're corrupted already.

Why did Russell say this then: "It’s something I think about, to be the second African-American to win the Super Bowl,” Wilson said. “That’s history right there, man. It’s something special and it’s real. There are so many guys before (me) who have tried to change the game and have done a great job of it." Russell sees it from a historical point of view. Even though he is the 2nd it is still important to him. It shows progress. It says look were came from and where we are headed. He also sees it from the numbers angle. The QB position was and still is dominated by white players. Although, one black QB has won one, all the other 46 champions have been white. Please tell me you are so dense you don't recognize this.

"There are certainly guys before me that tried to change the game and have done a great job of it. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdo...--nfl.html I just wanted to put a link behind what you are saying because someone is going to sweep it under the rug just like what has been going on in this thread. Quote:Oh my what. Dont bother, he will accuse you of being a bigot.

It’s something special and it’s real. There are so many guys before (me) who have tried to change the game and have done a great job of it." I don't care what Wilson thinks. If race is important to him, that is fine with me. But just by reading this thread, I see not all black people care about it. We don't know if any other black quarterback would say the same thing or not. That is just his opinion, not right or wrong. What is special to one person does not matter to another and that is OK. It does not mean I fail to recognize the historical facts.
We see color. That's reality. But we shouldn't judge by color. I think once these events stop being milestones then we will eventually get closer to the point of seeing people as people even if we also see color. That in itself will take time. We will get there. Not entirely, but to the point where race is no longer an issue and where we will look back as a people and think how ignorant our ancestors were.
IMO the second time is not a milestone. Sure, it is great to have a second guy do it, but that will not diminish what Doug Williams did. Nobody talks about the second black MLB player or Olympian. It is never mentioned because the most important thing is there was a first black man to do it. Does anybody even know who followed Jackie Robinson and Jesse Owens? What about the second black guy to do anything in life with white people? None of them are in history books. So you can't convince me it matters that Russell Wilson is the second black quarterback to win a Super Bowl.

The populatuon of blacks in America is a little under 13%. Of course you wouldn't hear anything about the other players, when our American history is so heavily skewed to one group of people. When I was in highschool we spent less than two weeks on topics such as Slavery, Jim Crow, andthe civil rights period. I think we spent more time romanticizing about the leaders of old than anything else. It took me going to college and becoming a grown man before I learned any of the nitty gritty about my African/European/and Native American ancestry. But you are implying that firsts are the only thing that matter? You are so totally and utterly clueless. Sorry the world is not color blind, sorry race does exist. I did not invent the term. Some European from way back when did despite there being no biological basis for it. Russell sees himself as a black male, and as a black male his experiences are colored by his culture and all the history that is tied to it. Sorry it bothers you so. Cry baby. Quote:Oh my what. You have a vivid imagination.

Well, that certainly explains your putrid attitude and the massive chip on your shoulder. But it certainly doesn't excuse it by any means.
