Surprised this wasn't more of a talking point leading up to the super bowl.

I think it's a note worthy accomplishment. Glad it didn't consume everything that team has done as a whole, but it's note worthy.

I saw in a photo his Dad was black, was his Mom of Middle Eastern or Indian background? Because that's what I thought when I first saw him in college.  I assumed he was of a mixed heritage, just because of his features, wasn't sure which he identified with the most.

Great to know, but it will soon just be another footnote as I expect many to follow. There definitely isn't the stigma attached to the color of a QB's skin that there was 20 years ago.

I think it's 2014.

I can't wait until stuff like this is completely out of the conversation.

I don't like labels.  Aren't we all Americans watching American Football?  Save the labels for food packaging.  Watching and enjoying the game, I gave it no thought.

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

People who are even more inspired by Wilson's achievements.

What will become a footnote is when people dont have to check what race they are when applying for a job, college, etc.

What will also become a footnote is when some people get over the perception that black QB's only use their elusiveness because they cant think, or decipher information ie Vince Young.

I wish we could all live this way.

I don't. I'm a veteran, and while I don't go around shoving that into people's faces or strut around like someone owes me something, that part of me helps to define me. I think that it's great to acknowledge all the bits and pieces of Russell Wilson that contributed to him winning a Super Bowl. As well as Max Unger, Kam Chancellor, Marshawn Lynch, and so forth.

To act like people aren't unique is doing them a disservice. We all have struggles that we need to overcome, let's point out when someone does just that!

Way to go Russell!

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Nobody has ever talked about Russell Wilson's race his entire career. Well, maybe Seahawks fans did. He is not very dark like Doug Williams, so I wonder if his family is multracial.

If you thought it was a good pregame topic, why didn't you mention it last week?

Because I could care less about it, I just think it's note worthy he made the accomplishment. On this topic I'm with Tommy its 2014 and I'm glad it wasn't a big deal, it was more about his accomplishments in a short period of time instead of what ethnic group he belongs to.

There is a much more noteworthy accomplishment that nobody is talking about: the Derrick Coleman is the first deaf player to go to the Super Bowl. Bonnie Sloan played for the Cardinals one year so I know he never did it. Kenny Walker did not get there either in his two seasons with the Broncos. Last night I read during Super Bowl Media Day, Coleman was interviewed, so I don't understand why no one talked about him leading up to the game. Compared to what he did, there is nothing noteworthy about Russell Wilson's race.

What I mean it is a lot more noteworthy to have a deaf player in the Super Bowl than a black quarterback.

Is that the article that explains how he started playing football?

Thats an opinion, not a fact.

I'm sort of with Tommy on it not being that big of a deal. Black players make up a good portion of the NFL.  Just because a quarterback won it, in my opinion, downplays what many others have done.

Yes, it is extremely noteworthy of having a deaf player playing football and even more so playing in the Super Bowl. The fact Wilson became the second Black QB to win the SB shows some coaches and people that if given a shot, Black QB's can be successful as well if given the opportunity. This also applies to Head Coaching, Team Ownership, and even real world career advancement opportunities.

Yes, the article talks about his childhood, and how he got into football.
