Fowler also shot himself in the foot with the off field stuff that grew the dislike from the saints around here. Fowler is a good player, but Yann is a mid round DE playing around the same level. Let Yann live lol. He isnt that much better than Dante and is having the worse season of the 2, but Yann has still been an above average player. Basically....Would you take a 3rd rd DE who puts up almost equal numbers to a 1st rd DE and take another player in the 1st; or would you spend the 1st on Fowler and hope another 3rd rd player will be as good as Yann.

It's not about this. ^ It's about getting a problem out of your locker room for a draft pick in return. The Jags did the right thing and hitting on Ngakoue allowed them the freedom to do it. From my perspective, Ngakoue's ability to bend around the edge as a pass rusher is a superior skill to Fowler's reliance on speed and stunts to get home. I think it makes the sustainability of production at their position tilted in Ngakoue's favor - and I believe that will become more and more apparent as the seasons pass. It's also why Yan has a ridiculous FF stat line.

I figured Fowler is better as a blitzing OLB and fits the 3-4 perfectly with what he's good at. Jags never wanted to use him at LB or stand him up so Yann looked better from the start. I don't think its personally because Yann is the better player overall, i think its just Yann is playing his learned position while we played Fowler out of position. Fowler did have the off the field stuff but i don't remember him having problems with players in the locker room. Guess that was an oversight on my end.

Don't want the team to overpay him. Imo Fowler is slightly better and I wouldn't pay him over 16 million per year either. We show less advertisements to registered users. He isnt a star DE but he is above average at his position. I blame our staff for player shortcomings more than some of the players. Players being put in the wrong position and not being coached properly is the main problem. Players aren't going to excel or grow in the wrong position with bad coaching. Its just a relief that most here now see that. Debating about player potential with the thought of good coaching is one thing, when the coaching is seen as horrible though, the argument is null and void.

Edit. Fowler still ahead in sacks.
But will he be at end of year? Yan does nothing again... We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Ngakoue tied Tony Brackens for the franchise record of most games with 2 or more sacks today. He also tied Brackens' record for highest # of sacks in a 4 year stretch with the Jags. (37 I think)

We all love Calais and I know we can save some cap if we move on but I really hope we keep him for Yan and Allen. Hes such a pro and he sets a standard on the Dline. It feels like hes been a big help for those younger guys.
Ngakoue needs extended. That should be a top priority in the offseason. I wanna keep Ngakoue and Allen together for as long as possible.

We can cut other players like Dareus, Lee, Swaim, Cann, Ryan and Jones to create a lot of cap space. There is no need to cut Calais. He's only signed through 2020. Let the man play out his contract. He deserves it. His leadership cannot be replaced. Looked like Cam Robinson Vs Yan though (12-16-2019, 09:58 AM)Rico Wrote:(12-16-2019, 09:56 AM)NYC4jags Wrote: They were missing their RT but Yan pressured from both sides all day. I don't recall seeing it work so well, but I've noticed him try to "go high" against a tackle a couple of times. Like an alternative/change-up to his usual low bend around the backside. Pretty nifty new tool in his arsenal.
I wonder if they could maybe move Campbell inside next year after clearing cap space. Resign Ngakoue. Allen now compliments off the edge.
If they can add Brown or Kinlaw to pair with Campbell they could be okay for another year with a base front four. Need a true, pure ILB like Simmons or Harrison to force Jack back outside. This should, on paper, improve the run defense and maintain your pass rush just from a base perspective. I think it's doable. With good coaching. And some key additions with our first three to four picks. We should be able to start fixing our weaknesses down the middle on defense. The offensive line is interesting. Robinson is a weakness at LT. But I like his aggressiveness and would prefer to see a move inside to LG or RG. Problem is. When and how that's addressed in the draft is concerning. In a perfect world. Redskins cut Williams. We land him. But the cap space probably doesn't allow that? So many questions. But maybe coaching can fix our woes on offense along the line.
