Foles traded to Chicago (merged)

Never wanted Foles and still don't but we're probably stuck with him on the roster

Seriously this would be the dumbest trade ever. Just eat the year of salary and take the lesson we earned. Foles is a fine, if completely overpriced backup.

His injury was almost expected given his history and when it happened the Mania began and it made it easy to forget Foles. He came back in, stunk it up and the rest is history. I suspect he will remain on the roster this year.
The majority of the fan base, no. But go back to the threads after the Jags signed him. There are A LOT of posters who were excited.

The issue wasn't WANTING to sign Foles. The issue was paying a band-aid 22m per season. Especially when nobody else was competing for his service.

You trade Foles and a pick not for the 2020 season, but for 2021.  With the money you save off the 2021 cap, you can be active in free agency.  More importantly, it saves Khan a good chunk of money and given his financial difficulties, it makes perfect sense.

Of course, none of this really matters because the Jags will suck no matter what because they don't really want to win anyway.

Eating 18M in dead money this year is really helping with free agency, isn't it?

Trading his this year means yet another season of an 18M hit with nothing to show for it, AND you still have to replace the player. Are you suggesting we roll with Shew and Dobbs?

I don't recall much excitement around here. If there was  it was probably more that it was not BB5 any longer than it was the hiring of Foles.

I know I was not among those excited. Seems a real good dude but still just a back up quality QB IMO. A REALLY expensive one.

Remember how quickly late last year the narrative, both from Foles supporters on this board and in the media, went from, "We wanted him to be the unquestioned starter," to, "There were 3-4 other teams competing for his services."?

There were tweets in the old Foles thread supporting this.

At best  his play was mediocre last year but I think he's a better player than he showed. The position is a huge question mark going into next year.

He got hurt first game and was forced back early from a broken collarbone. For the life of me, I can't understand why people around here hate him so much when there is SO MUCH other stuff to hate about this team.

On a side note, the brass didn't bring in Foles thinking he had Lamar Jackson mobility and gave him one of the worst o-lines in all of football.

My point is, this team is terrible from top to bottom, and using Foles as a scapegoat and putting all of your chips behind Minshew is just strange.

This team.... jeez

It is obvious the team is rotten through and through even with a complete roster dump through the Bradley error.  How the heck is this team actual worse then at the start of that rebuild.  We have a few WRs and a Raw QB at least but dang we have nothing left from a philosophy that built a championship defense.

So I get it now..  we need to franchise and trade Yan so we can build draft capital to dump Foles so we save cap space in the future?

So winless next year?

I suspect people see him as a symbol for all the dysfunctional things that have gone on with this team the past 10 years. And there's been *a lot* including his play. Not fair to the player I guess but fans are fans.

The money spent in the QB room is just fine. The other thing to think about is Foles has been at his best coming off the bench to play after the primary QB has been injured. Instead of paying him to play against us just let it ride. We do not save anything worthwhile on the cap. Now if some team wants him bad enough that is another decision. Kinda dumb to eat salary or give up draft picks to move him.

Foles would be slated less if he didn't only have 1.5 good seasons worth of good play to fallback on at age 31

I think he's on the roster here in 2020. The only way I see a trade coming up with him is if a team is in the play-off race and they lose their starting QB just before the mid season trade deadline.

Or, they can always say [BLEEP] it and cut him for the sake of doing it I guess.

If they cut him his number this year is $33.875 million. Would a group on a 1 year "must win" hot seat really do that to themselves?

If they trade him they save $3 million and some change. That's not a very good incentive to move him when he's probably going to win the starting job in August.

With this owner, general manager and coach? I wouldn't put anything past them. They [BLEEP] suck.

To add further. "Must win" was in effect in 2018 & 2019 and good old Khan decided they were still okay based on their contract extensions he gave them.

He's either that out of touch and that cheap when it comes to organizational "structure" or he's just a dick head looking to further alienate this fan base to drive down ticket sales to move away from here.

The Factory of Shadness continues... This team is a circus, and their are no teams that would be interested in trading for Foles when Brady, Rivers, Newton, Carr, Prescott, Winston, Tannehill, Mariota, et cetera are either available for FA or trade.

And we can't act like this front office will learn from this mistake. They literally did this two years ago with Blake Bortles!

Foles wouldn't win the QB job over Minshew even if he wasn't traded.  #15 will be the QB whether you like it or not.
