To be fair, the only part of this "plan" we've seen thus far is a couple of good hires in Gruden and McAdoo and a few released players that most of us predicted would be cap cuts.

We need to see what happens in free agency and the draft before we can have any real opinion on "the plan."

The potential to improve this roster is very real.  It just remains to be seen whether they can pull it off and whether the current staff can prepare the team to compete effectively after the facelift is complete.
Fans understandably have little to no confidence in either of these things happening, but they've hardly even begun the process.
I am going to hold off until after free agency and the draft. Then we will have a better idea on the direction of the 2020 season. Honestly, if Minshew does what I think he can do, we can turn this around in 1 season. If he doesn't and is a 1 year wonder, then there will be even more changes next year.

Perceived Nostalgia. Perceived improvement of ticket sales. More reasons to shield Teflon David Caldwell from scrutiny.

Can you imagine destroying your place of employment and being able to blame someone else for doing it?

I've got a very strong feeling that Khan has already told Caldwell that at least he will be back in 2021 regardless of what's happening with Marrone. A man who knows that his job is at stake in December doesn't set up the fire sale tent in March.

Wouldn't be surprised at all

Exactly, I had no problems with them drafting Joeckel it just didn't work out and that injury his rookie year + making him play RT just curtailed his development.

Cyprien was a "handcuff pick" Gus Bradley flat out DEMANDED a SS be drafted high as he needed his version of Kam Chancellor to implement the Seattle Cover-3 scheme. That was published ad nausem back then. I believe they were targetting Matt Elam who was drafted the pick before but reached for Cyprien after he was taken. Caldwell also mentioned in an interview that they strongly STRONGLY considered drafting Darius Slay as his individual workout was extremely impressive.

Caldwell has always had an eye for talent, but bc of the other influences he hasn't been able to stick to his guns as much as he would've liked. He was on record when he was hired saying that he didn't believe Gus Bradley was the right fit for the job but since Shad was head over heels for his "just get BETTER" approach that Caldwell had little to no say, and faced pressure to go offboard to draft players for his particular schemes rather than on pure talent or glaring needs (how we ended up with Dwayne Gratz because he had the arm length they prefer in a corner) I'm willing to give Caldwell another shot at this thing, bc right after Bradley was ousted, they brought in TC to further undermine him.
Championship Formula:

1) Draft Trevor Lawrence!
2) Play good physical Defense!
3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy!
4) ???
5) Blank #2
6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Dude if it was one pick, I would cut him a break.  It's most of his high round picks.  Lets get real here.

Yep. Pretty spot on except for all those other years I’d add QB. I think Minshew can make plays so... give the kid a shot.

To order lunch faster or eat faster. Something about lunch. Whatever it was, definitely didn’t help on the field. That’s for sure.

Which was silly. Coughlin had proved the first time he was here he was a terrible front office guy.

Caldwell is a great drafter, plain and simple. Some of you just like the sound of your keyboard smoking

Not great, but certainly pretty good. The reason this team lacks talent isn't because he did't bring it here, it's because the coaches couldn't use it right and Coughlin ran a bunch of it off.

I find it funny we brought in Coughlin after Caldwell's best draft ever.

Great point!

That is strong evidence that my theory that Coughlin was brought in to take over Khan's day to day tasks (and not to replace or oversee Caldwell) is correct.

Dave has had some good drafts, and not just because the Jags picked high most years. He has found talent in the lower rounds pretty consistently. I'm anxious to see what Dave can do with lots of picks in a deep draft.
