Dave Caldwell leaves all doors open

Any Jaguars' GM knows that when Prisco comes around, you call security, or challenge him to step into the locker room.

Come on, Caldwell, learn your team history.

Why would you call security?  The man is an ewok.

I wouldn't mind building a defensive powerhouse and getting a "game managing" type quarterback. Franchise QBs are a bit overrated nowadays

Like the 2012 texans?

Yeah, that's a great idea.

Yes, it's amazing how a great defense and running game can make an average QB look elite.   I don't think Russell Wilson is an elite QB.   He's a good QB, but he is no hall of famer like Manning or Brady or Brees.   And yet, they can win a Super Bowl with Russell Wilson at QB.

And the odds are so much against us ever finding an elite QB.   We can waste a dozen picks on QBs and never find an elite QB.   For every Peyton Manning there are a dozen Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Jamarcus Russell, David Carr, Joey Harrington, and on and on.

I like what Seattle does.   They just kill the opposing QB with their front four.   To me, a great front four is almost as valuable as an elite QB, because if you can rush the passer with just the four down linemen, you can drop the other 7 guys into all sorts of coverages, and all of a sudden, well you saw what happened to Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl.   Elite no more, at least not for that game.

Tall order.  You get one, maybe two, defenses like that a year, sometimes none.  Teams have been trying to build that for years, but they fail.  We tried to do it here for the longest time.  Then when you got some injuries and the defense struggles a bit, you have nobody to dig you out of the hole.  Even in Seattle, I think if the defense struggled, Wilson could have dug them out of the hole if he needed, and this is only his 2nd year.

Exactly, people are vastly underrating Wilson. He's essentially being perceived right now as Tom Brady was being perceived in his first few seasons.

In addition it's clear the NFL does NOT want defense to win, they want Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees to win. Every year. The Jaguars won't win a Superbowl without a winner at QB. The NFL will only continue to make it harder to do what the Ravens did with Dilfer.

You're underrating Wilson. He's not a game manager, he's a play maker.

Well you know what I mean..nowadays if you are not in the elite quarterback category you're just a game manager

Name the Manning, Rodgers, or Brees in this draft or in free agency...

Nope, I haven't talked much at all about Gabbert since the preseason when you were raving about how much better than Henne he was, looks like you were wrong there.

You're the one bringing him up. It's okay, though, no judgement here.

Yeah, I see no arguments from you now that you made yourself look like a fool last year.

You're the one who is making yourself look like a fool. He said not 1 thing about Gabbert.

His stance is wrong in this thread. Agreed. But, you're the one grasping for an argument at the moment by bringing up Gabbert.
