Sammy Watkins a tempting pick for Jags at #3..

Quote:Who is Jadeveon Clowney's favorite quarterback? What does that have to do with anything? But to answer your question, probably South Carolina's starter. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
After just watching the Caldwell interview behind the podium fielding national questions at the combine today, I saw a different Caldwell than I expected. He was obviously nervous and seemed slightly uncomfortable. Towards the end, (paraphrasing) he mentions that Henne went 500 in the last 8 games, and with additional playmakers and an improved OL, he could be decent. It was the first time that his answer seemed to not be rehearsed and slipped out as it did in his nervousness and discomfort. I know I may be overreading it, but it almost looked like he wanted to take back the comment once made. I immediately thought of this topic, and thought the Watkins suggestion may have more merit than I first thought.
I encourage anyone to take a look at his combine video just posted on this site, and would love to know others' thoughts.

Maybe I am unable to pick up stuff like that, but I never thought he was nervous while talking about winning four games. That was not the first time he praised Chad Henne. Apparently he thinks if we can't get our "franchise quarterback" in the draft this year we can survive one more season with Henne under center while waiting for the 2015 draft.
Blackmon may be back, but they're not going to count on him. They're going to treat having him as a bonus. But they are going to be realistic and build the team as if he is not here at all.

In fact, he looked a lot more relaxed than usual. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

My gut feeling is he's not thrilled with having to play Chad Henne as his quarterback. I also thought it was funny that the only two options he posed for Gabbert's future was either they decide to go in another direction, or he gets beat out.

I think Caldwell has already given up on Gabbert and is just keeping him until a rookie is signed this summer.
Quote:What does that have to do with anything? Because you said "He is only a tempting pick if both Jadeveon Clowney and David Caldwell's favorite quarterback are gone." So I was just wondering who you thought Clowney's favorite QB is. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:They absolutely will count on him. No way are they treating him as a bonus. 1. He's not reinstated yet. So they can't count on him until that happens. 2. He can get suspended again or fail to get reinstated. That's why they are treating him as a bonus. They aren't relying on him, because his participation depends on his behavior (which has proven him to be unreliable.) He promised to behave, and he didn't. He let the team and the fans down. The approach they have is the right one, not to assume he'll be around. Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Plan as if he's not available. So, if he behaves and contributes... bonus.

Quote:1. He's not reinstated yet. So they can't count on him until that happens. I thought he would be reinstated when the season ended. When will that happen? The Jaguars are doing everything they can to make sure when that does happen, he will not be suspended again, so they are confident he will turn his life around. Quote:I thought he would be reinstated when the season ended. When will that happen? I'm pretty sure they felt that way when they drafted him, too. History shows they can't rely on that to happen. His suspension is indefinite, and he has to apply for reinstatement when the 2014 season begins. I've looked around, and the actual date is unclear. I've read both "at the beginning of" and "just before the start of" the 2014 season. Meaning, if taken literally, he may not be back until after the preseason games and cuts are over at the beginning of September... completely missing offseason workouts with the team and preseason games.

Quote:They absolutely will count on him. No way are they treating him as a bonus. And why do you say that?
Quote:And why do you say that? Because everything David Caldwell said about him is about the fact that he is still a Jaguar and will remain a Jaguar.
Watkins is the real deal. This wouldn't be bad at all. Even better would be if they could trade down a few spots and still get him.

Quote:Of course he said that. What else could he say? That he is evaluating the possibility of Blackmon returning. If he was doing that, he would have said it. |
