Agreed.
Any NFL team looking for a HC would be making an enormous mistake if they hired Doug Pederson as HC this winter. The Eagles had to move on.
What am I missing here? Pedersen was there 5 seasons, made playoffs 3 of them and won a Superbowl. How much better of results can you really hope for in 5 seasons with a starting QB that has never finished a season since his rookie year when I think even then he played with broken ribs (didn't play that well either) and a WR core nobody has ever heard of. They had long stretches of games where I don't think a single WR they had starting was even drafted?
And not sure how much influence he had on the decision, but I'm sure he had some say in getting Jalen Hurts - who looks like a possible future league MVP the way he played in his limited time so far. I know that may seem like a stretch, but Hurts was phenomenal in those few starts, with exception of the last game when Pedersen put Sudfield out there, probably to intentionally lose the game and see what he had in a backup for next season.
I don't get it. Was winning that last game really that important to the Eagles management?
I don't understand why you guys are going full "no thanks", "I'll pass", etc on Pedersen?

I will gladly...desperately take our chances with Pederson developing Lawrence over anyone else available. It's not even close.

Did we offer Meyer the HC job while awaiting his response? I hope not.

In a rare instance, I strongly disagree with you, D6.
Pederson checks way too many boxes for him to be anything other than the highest choice at this point.
1. He has had proven, recent NFL success. He won the freaking Super Bowl for the 2017 season. Newsflash: That is the main thing missing from the Jaguars.
2. He is an offensive guy. Everyone says they want an offensive guy here. He is from the Andy Reid coaching tree.He played QB under Reid.
3. He has a proven recent history of developing QBs. He developed Carson Wentz into an MVP candidate in 2017. He got a Super Bowl title out of Nick Foles.
4. He knows he needs a strong defensive coordinator. He hired Jim Schwartz when he was with the Eagles in the first place. With Schwartz sitting out this year, he knows he will need a strong defensive mind to make the team balanced.
5. He knows how to utilize the TE in the offense. Our Jaguars have never really had anything close to a dominant receiving threat at TE in our history.
Even if you blame the Eagles subsequent collapse entirely on him (from what I've read, there is plenty of blame to go around), his tenure with the Eagles exceeds every coach here. If he were to replicate his tenure here in its entirety, I'd take it because we'd win a Super Bowl. But if we protect Lawrence, better, we get more from him than the Eagles got from Wentz. Lurie's own words" "Pederson did not deserve to be fired."
Pederson's availability changes everything.wont be here next year anyway
Go bring him in, Khan.
Got to agree with this based on all the good points made. This can be a fresh start for him and whatever staff he assembles. Half the roster won't be here next year anyway. And he will be motivated to show that it was mostly the Eagles org, not him, that allowed the team to slip (tho honestly, it all started with the loss of Reich).

It's because, in my completely uneducated opinion of Philly, The Eagles continually got worse with him. He inherited a team went 7-9, then won the SB (awesome), then 9-7 twice, then 4-11. The locker room progressively got more controversial, Wentz continually regressed each season, and capped off with that last game benching Hurts for no reason fiasco. Look at that last game any way you want, I'm not a fan of it. But from the outside looking in, he took a good team and ran it into the ground.

Go bring him in, Khan. Bullseye, all of what you mentioned are good points. I think that GM Howie Roseman is much more responsible for the Eagles last place NFC East finish than Pederson.
Even with all of this factored in, I think the Jaguars ( and the other teams with a HC opening ) would be making a huge mistake by hiring Pederson this this winter. The baggage Pederson would bring appears to be substantially greater than the benefits. Here's why I believe this is the case:
Players with one team often communicate with players from another team. Agents relay info about other the climate on other teams as well. A high % of the Eagles locker room are very disturbed by Pederson benching Jalen Hurts in the 4th QTR of a winnable game that they trailed only by 3 points. The Eagles were depleted with injuries for the season finale. Yet, they played with passion and purpose. Pederson put in a journeyman QB who was overmatched. This on top if not going to Hurts sooner as the starter when Carson Wentz repeatedly made costly mistakes. Trust has been lost.

No it doesn't. And if you told me he'd get us a SB and then bomb, I'd take it all day. I just don't see where he made the team any better. He got the SB and then continually made questionable decisions and his players regressed. Sidney Jones is a prime example, he played much better after leaving. How much influence he had on all of that and everything is admittedly above my football IQ. But I question whether he just "lucked" into that SB by Wentz and Foles having out of body QB experiences or if it's because of how well he coached

I agree that Doug Pederson did plenty of good coaching under far less than ideal circumstances during his time as Eagles HC. Yet, unless Pederson has the trust of team leaders, he's highly likely going to fail as an NFL HC moving forward.

Even taking all of that at face value...even if you assume he mismanaged the QB position this year, it pales in comparison to his superlative management of the same position on the same team the year before. None of that negates his qualifications for this position for the future.
At the end of the day, he's still versed in the Andy Reid system, that has proven successful in Philadelphia and KC. He was the one responsible for developing Wentz in the first place. Wouldn't he be best equipped to make decisions based upon Wentz' lack of development?

Bullseye, I think there' s better than a 50 % chance that one of the other teams looking for a HC will hire Pederson as HC in the coming days or weeks, unless Pederson decides to take a year off from coaching. Using the reasons and expectations you mentioned as the foundation of the decision.
I would be very surprised though if it was the Lions or Texans that hired Pederson as HC. In the Lions case, because of the locker room problems when Matt Patricia was HC. With the Texans, because of the current distrust Deshaun Watson has with ownership.
While I think hiring Pederson would be a mistake by the Jaguars, Jets, Chargers, or Falcons, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if any of those 4 teams hired him as HC.

Now that's another issue entirely.
Of course iti's a good chance the Jaguars won't hire Pederson for whatever reasons.
Perhaps Khan has his heart set on Meyer.
Perhaps Pederson has no interest in coaching here.
Perhaps Pederson will be more persuaded by another team.
Perhaps Pederson has no interested in coaching this year after what transpired in Philly.
But if Khan is interested in winning....if Khan is interested in maximizing the production out of the franchise QB the team has lacked, it behooves him to interview the coaches that have proven able to get the most out of that position. It behooves Khan to interview those who have won at the NFL level. That means interviewing Pederson.

Now that he has been fired, screw whether he continues to have the trust of Eagles' team leaders Obviously, Wentz, who SHOULD have been a team leader, didn't have Pederson's trust. If those team leaders were on that 2017 team, I wonder how betrayed they feel every time they look at or think about that Super Bowl ring.
The thing is, a player disagreeing with a coach's decision is inevitable over the course of a season. A receiver felt he should have been the first read on a play. A runner thinks he should get more carries. A benchwarmer thinks he should get more playing time. Players think they should have gone for it on 4th and short. What ISN'T inevitable is coaching a team to a Super Bowl win. Pederson accomplished that, with some of the same players supposedly complaining about him now. I think there was some power struggle between Roseman and Pederson over Wentz. Lurie sided with Roseman.

Here's a really informative breakdown and why I don't super like the idea of Pederson:
