Monroe Traded

It's real easy to find great tackles. I mean Joeckel will slider in to LT despite playing very average at RT. This move is brilliant!
Quote:3rd day picks what a Joke, What if Luke Joekel is not as good as Monroe? We can't spend money because we're only $30m under the cap. :woot: Bend over Jags, here comes your daddy (Ravens) Quote:Were the Jaguars some branch of the federal government that just got caught in the shutdown and nobody told me? After having some time to think about this move, as much as I don't like trading away players at premium positions, this is once again a situation where we're moving on from a player who contributed to 7 wins in more than 2 seasons. They got 3 players in exchange, so hopefully one or more of those guys pans out. It took Monroe a while to become what many consider to be one of the better LTs in the game. He was never dominant at his position like you'd expect a top tier player to be. With Joeckel on the roster, there was the eventual expectation he'd assume that position. This just accelerated the process. This is a bad team that needs a lot of help. They've made it clear they will do the bulk of their building through the draft. So, having more draft picks certainly helps in that regard. I'm still not a fan of trading away a good young player, but as Bullseye points out above, there are only so many players on the roster who have actual trade value, and among those guys, Monroe was the one who would command the best price in exchange. Once you get past him, there isn't a whole lot of value there. Guys like MJD and Lewis have hurt their trade value recently due to injuries and lackluster play. So, Monroe served a purpose for a team in the midst of a massive rebuilding effort. It stinks, but it's understandable. Hopefully it pans out. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:Monroe has 12 games left on his contract. He's a free agent at the end of the year. Why not considerder resigning him at the end of the year. The dude has had a bunch of schmucks coaching him for 3 years. Heck, we don't even know what kind of blocking scheme we are using from week to week.

It stinks, but it's understandable. Hopefully it pans out. The thing that I dislike the most about this trade is the fact that I honestly believe our offensive line coaching is near the worst in the league. As I stated in another post, we don't even know what kind of blocking scheme we are using these days. Last year, we had an offensive line coach that was just as bad. Had we spent a few dollars in coaching and gotten a Russ Grimm type assistant head coach, we could have at least known what we have and what we don't have as far as talent is concerned. Our coaching staff is a bunch of rookies that are learning on the job -- everybody we pick can't be this bad where we just want to dump them for late round picks. Monroe was one of the few players that I thought could be a key player if some good interior linemen were added to the roster.
I would laugh if the Jaguars signed Monroe in free agency.
Wouldn't happen, but I'd laugh.
THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.
RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE. Quote:@Predator, what if Joeckel is a better LT than Monroe? He likely won't be this year, but next year I think he very well could be. I liked him as a LT prospect (before I knew he was even going to the Jags) much more than I liked Eugene Monroe out of Virginia (who fell in the draft for legit reasons.) So you replace your relatively new couch with another newer couch, but lose your recliner (RT) for 3 months. But it's only for three months and that new couch really grows on you and you end up liking it a lot more than the other couch. Not only that, but you have more money to buy a decent recliner (RT) PLUS a spiffy coffee table ( C ) and decent TV tray (OG) the next year. But what really brings the living together is the amazing huge new HD Smart TV (QB.) So really... after a year, you have the possible better, newer, cheaper couch (LT) the same quality recliner (RT, because Joeckel has just been average to mediocre out of position at RT so far), the dope TV (QB, which would of happened anyways though regardless of this transaction), but something you didn't have... that spiffy coffee table ( C ) and solid TV tray (OG.)It has nothing to do with Joeckel. It's like buying a nice new car, driving it for a couple of years, and then buying another new and better car, and selling the older car that is still in excellent condition on craigslist for $200. Are you going to say, "What does it matter? I got a better car"? Maybe if you are rich, but that's the point. The jags aren't rich, they are very talent poor and trading away talent for a fraction of its value is foolish. What they have done is devalue the team. The chances of those couple of lower level draft picks of ever equaling the talent level of Monroe are very slim. Either they are purposely trying to make the team even worse or we have a GM who is foolishly overconfident in his ability to find high quality talent with late draft picks (much like our former GM). Either way, it is a recipe for disaster. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Unless we got a 3rd round for him we just traded a good young player for nothing

Heck, we don't even know what kind of blocking scheme we are using from week to week. The Jags might have already sealed that deal. Jaguars- Hey Monroe, were going to send you to the ravens for 12 games then resign you to the contract you desire next year. Monroe(in his weirdly soft voice)- Sweet, a chance at some victories and then a payday?

Quote:It has nothing to do with Joeckel. Great Analogy !!! I honestly thought we could fix the Oline by grabbing a Center (Mack) and OG in free agency. Another fear of mine is that our OLine coaching over the past few years has been terrible and he'll flurish in Baltimore where they know how to run a franchise and are not afraid to get top notch coaches and players.
Quote:The Jags might have already sealed that deal. Light goes on in HURRICANE head -- the above scenario would be perfect unless they would franchise him - which I don't think they will. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Why not considerder resigning him at the end of the year. The dude has had a bunch of schmucks coaching him for 3 years. Heck, we don't even know what kind of blocking scheme we are using from week to week. We can do that. We can STILL re-sign him at the end of the year. That's my point. What we traded away was 12 games. 12 games we weren't going to win anyway. We gave up VERY LITTLE.
Quote:My initial reaction was satisfaction and still is. Joeckel will slide back to his natural position, we'll have more draft picks, and spend money elsewhere in FA. If we trade down for Clowney then things get even crazier, tank again for Jameis and gather a RG3+ deal? Probably not happening, pretty sure Teddy is our guy I'm not satisfied with the return - not when Trent Richardson (who plays a non premium position) and hasn't proven to even be all that good, nets a first rounder. Also WR Roy Williams, who was another that really wasn't all that good AND was in a similar situation contract-wise as Monroe (Last year of) fetches a 1st, 3rd & 6th. Hell even a broken down, old & battered Stroud fetched us a 3rd + a 5th.... If it is merely a cackle of 3rd day picks, Caldwell got fleeced, plain & simple. Quote:We are the farm league team for the NFL. nah, we're not the Marlins - I wish we were!!....at least the Marlins usually get good return on their fire sale trades. Quote:Were the Jaguars some branch of the federal government that just got caught in the shutdown and nobody told me? See above Quote:Has no one thought of this? What if we DO re-sign Monroe? He's a free agent at the end of the year whether we trade him or not. So there's nothing to keep us from signing him in free agency. I don't want to re-sign Monroe in FA because I think Joeckel has the higher ceiling at OLT - and Monroe is not a ORT. We need more of a mauler for that position.
Quote:It has nothing to do with Joeckel. Hello! Monroe is a FREE AGENT at the end of the year. What we traded away was a 12 game contract. Either way, he's a free agent at the end of the year. Were those 12 games worth more to us than a few draft picks? Heck no! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I'm not satisfied with the return - not when Trent Richardson (who plays a non premium position) and hasn't proven to even be all that good, nets a first rounder. Trent Richardson got more in trade because he is UNDER CONTRACT FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS! Take a look at the difference- Trent Richardson for 2-1/2 years vs Eugene Monroe for 12 games. BIG DIFFERENCE!
Quote:We can do that. We can STILL re-sign him at the end of the year. That's my point. What we traded away was 12 games. 12 games we weren't going to win anyway. We gave up VERY LITTLE. I do like that concept. cha ching ....... !!! So your premise is that Caldwell got fleeced by gaining picks for a player you were going to let walk for nothing? All Caldwell gave up in your scenario is 12 games without a player you are going to let walk for nothing. Does not make sense.
