Head Coach Candidates (Merged Threads)

Eberflus isn’t worst case scenario (had a bad week 18 game obviously) but relax everyone.

They can’t give a 2nd interview to Byron who I think is still the favorite.

You guys gotta relax. Eberflus, while not my top pick, wouldn't be terrible.

But I still think Byron is the favorite.

At least for Fields it looks good as I think Leftwich will actually commit to an identity on offense and build around Fields ability as a passer. My only concern with Leftwich being hired is his coaching staff. He's young. Curious what his coaching network would enable him to pull into the NFL or around the NFL. Especially on defense.

Larry Foote? Cody Grimm?

42 is young? When did that happen? 'Cause I'm 36.... guess I'm a spring chicken. YES! Time to go after 20 year olds.

I'm 42. I'm definitely still a spring chicken. I'll peck out your eyeballs if you say otherwise. Back da bok bok up!

If Eberflus is hired I could see him bringing over Dave Borgonzi (Linebackers coach) to help coach the defense while he runs the defense as the headcoach play calling wise. Would be cool with him also stealing Mike Groh (Wide Receivers coach) or Press Taylor (Senior Offensive Assistant) as the offensive coordinator.

Now, with all that said. Do we REALLY want the coaches that just laid up two stinkers in a row and blew an opportunity to the play-off's against us? Mehhhhhhhh. I don't know man....

We could run the offense on the George Costanza principle if he becomes head coach.  Do the opposite of his first instinct and the o-unit will murder everyone they play.

I don't understand this at all. Why not just interview Joe Cullen, who's twice the defensive coordinator as Eberdoofus?

That's a fair point.

He's not BoB bad, but he's Dennis Allen/Brandon Staley meh. He's not doing anything innovative with the Dolts defense. He'll be canned in 2-3 years with no playoff appearances.

O'Brien actually isnt a bad coach.  He just doesnt nee to have roster control and GM powers.

Yup this 2nd interview is likely in person. I'm sure all the 2nd interviews will be but some will have to wait longer.

I agree with the opinion of Dilla from the standpoint of a good outcome for the Jaguars.

That would be the only positive

Here's something that I've been wondering about for a few days/weeks...

If the Jags do end up hiring Hackett as HC, what are the odds he brings his boy Marrone back with him as o-line coach? And how would players who were here under Marrone, like Linder, handle that lols?

I don't get these kind of comments, what makes you think Marrone would agree to that?
Coming back to the same team in a lesser capacity is something I doubt many coaches would agree to.

I am not saying it is impossible but I highly doubt Marrone would do it.

I think Marrone would rather be at Alabama than back here, and Hackett probably wants to get out from under his shadow.
