Head Coach Candidates (Merged Threads)

If we don’t hire Wilson and Leftwich, I can’t imagine this team not being horrible again next year. I’m not saying that it will be good if we do hire them, but it would at least give me some hope. If we end up with Baalke and Bevell or, even worse Fangio, I’ll have absolutely no hope. That’s what’s so upsetting about this. I strongly disliked the Urban Meyer hire, but it wasn’t spirit killing the way this is. It amazes me how this franchise continues to hit what seems like rock bottom and still manages to fall further. Ask yourself, as a Jaguar fan, how many times have you thought “well it can’t get any worse” only to have just that happen, over the last decade or so.I feel like they have at least managed to create some excitement in the offseason during this stretch, but this year even the offseason has been embarrassing and disappointing. I usually don’t let it bother me this much, but for some reason this has really got me down.

Birth of the Franchise - November 30, 1993
Death of the Franchise - November 29, 2011 Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

He’s ready for Byron and Wilson but wants to release it himself tomorrow. If this is indeed the case, which is a realistic possibility, Shad Khan brought upon himself and the Jaguars franchise unnecessary bad public relations. Which, will make it that much more difficult for the new Jaguars football regime to overcome. Another downside of waiting until tomorrow with the announcement, compared to before the weekend (I'm assuming the NFL told its respective teams not to make hiring announcements on NFL Conference Championship Weekend), is the Jaguars will be behind other teams during Senior Bowl Week to at least some extent.

If we don't hire Leftwich and he doesn't get another HC job Leftwich may never get another shot at becoming HC again with Brady retiring. I could see this like the Yawn situation when he didn't take our offer. He lost 10s of millions and when he retires he will look back and realize that was the biggest mistake of his career We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I’m not necessarily agreeing with the bold above, but if that’s true, that’s actually a reason for not hiring him.
I guess this could fit in this or 2 other threads. Since we’ve been throwing theories around…I don’t think I believe this but any theory I can think of that gets us Wilson and Leftwich makes me happy. If the Brady retiring news is true, and he’s waiting for his 15m, maybe Byron doesn’t want to overshadow the Goats retirement announcement with his HC gig? Far fetched, I know. Just bored waiting on these games to start.

Raiders hiring mcdaniels per PFT.
The candidate pool is rapidly shrinking.
What I'm puzzling over is the decision criteria for the HC. Normally the interview is for gameplay strategies, roster assessments, etc. UM was speed, a 3-4 defense and a multi-year roster build around TL. A pretty standard vision and nothing that a new coach must change, unless...
Q’s I would be focusing on: - What do you do with the team is TL is a bust? How do you get TL to perform and avoid busting? - demonstrate you can build organisational cohesion out of chaos. Who do you need to make that happen? If I don't get blow my socks off, rockstar answers to those questions then I'm better off sticking with the current staff. They maybsuck but at least I know what they offer. Difficult times to be playing with a billionaire's toy.

Now that he's actually doing that everyone is losing their minds, I think Byron is definitely still in the lead but until we hear rumors confirmed no news is good news. I don't think this speaks to any dysfunction, because Khan is doing exactly what he said he's doing. He could be having private talks with Jim Harbaugh, he could be trying to coax a Hall of Fame Coach out of retirement like Tony Dungy. I really believe Khan is leaving no stone unturned but still has an idea of what to do. Khan said that just because they have the biggest head start on finding a coach doesn’t mean that they’ll fill it right away and that it might be some time so he can do true due diligence. That’s playing out right now and we’re melting down. YES Baalke has to go, but there are still good candidates with Byron & Brian Flores is still available. I don’t think it’s dysfunctional that it’s taking a few days longer than fans would prefer. I don’t know how much truth is in any of these rumors.
Championship Formula:
1) Draft Trevor Lawrence! 2) Play good physical Defense! 3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy! 4) ??? 5) Blank #2 6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

The weird thing is that when it was clear he had to get rid of Coughlin he didn't hesitate to make the move. Not sure why he's still got Baalke in the building.
Jags got so much bad PR right now, and so much bad blood from the fans, and it’s all been avoidable. Nothing they have done in this search has made any sense. It feels like Shad isn’t going to sack Baalke entirely based on some weird ego principle.
