It's too late to fire Baalke. He's needed for roster input and transactions. The hope is that Caldwell [with more than likely Pederson's direct input] will have final say in personnel decisions.

Pederson already has his staff in place. He already knows what he wants to do vision wise. He's probably the safest bet at this time.

I’d live with it, for sure. But a complete clean slate would have been preferable.  Perhaps I’m letting the Wilson/Leftwich thing get the best of me.  If I heard this a week or so after the season I’d be jumping for joy.  I guess I just need time to process the fact that Baalke is still in the building after having my hopes up.  At least we won’t have that one troll on here advocating for Bevell.

It’s kinda starting to look that way.   There was an article published by NBC Sports this morning about Pederson being lukewarm on coming here because of Baalke and what he went through in Philly.

Someone, probably SamusAranX, mentioned Shad getting “cold feet” over moving on Byron this quickly, and I’m starting to get the impression that it’s possible that it’s more of a case of Shad being afraid to make a decision than it is his loyalty to Baalke.  It’s almost like if he keeps Baalke and screws up on the HC hire, he can blame it on deciding to keep Baalke, but if he fires Baalke and screws up the HC/GM hire, it’s all on him.  Obviously, this is nothing but pure conjecture on my part, but even the most irrational behavior has an underlying motive, and I’m just trying to figure out what Shad’s is.

It's an easy equation from a risk perspective.  He knows what he gets from Balke.  Byron is a first time HC and Wilson and unknown GM to Jacksonville.  It's a big risk to completely switch everything up like that and could easily result in jumping into the fire from the frying pan.  If the Byron/Wilson combo didn't present as a 100% guaranteed better option than Balke/Bevell, the default choice, then it's stick with the status quo (as much as I'm sure Kahn agrees that sucks - otherwise he wouldn't be looking to hire a new coach).

Now this is all starting to make some sense. Possible sequence of events:

Shad kicks off the search by telling agents over a month ago that the coach would decide Baalke’s fate.

By the time Shad was ready to hire Byron, Shad felt it was too late in the FA/draft process to fire Baalke. Leftwich refused to take the job if Baalke wasn’t out of the building.

Someone comes up with this latest proposed structure where Baalke can stay through the draft, and the Caldwell/Pederson alliance can keep the snake in in the basket until then.

Like I said, it makes sense on a lot of levels and ties together all of these scraps of information we’ve been getting. I guess we’ll know soon enough if it’s true.

I've thought for awhile that if Baalke stayed then Bevell would stay. I don't really have anything against Bevell, I just think the Jags could do so much better and when you add Baalke into the mix, yep. Disaster.

I am stuck on thia team and will stay on for one more disaster. Man that early franchise success has kept me locked in. Trevor pick helped as well but man this owner is burning through my emotional capital.

I'm gonna see who gets hired and what goes on, but if we're just gonna hire some guy who will work with Baalke, I'm gonna take a sabbatical from the Jaguars until until Khan changes his attitude and actually tries to put a winning product on the field. I'll still watch football, but I'll probably just watch whatever games I can get locally, instead of going out of my way to pay extra and watch the Jaguars.

The case for change is obvious and easy.  Duh, any moron can make it as demonstrated here.

The better option is not so obvious and that is the challenge of someone wanting the coaching job.  If just anybody would be better than what we have now then UM would be a raging success.  Instead UM demonstrates it's really easy to [BLEEP] up these decisions.  Bevell/Balke serve up crap.  We know this.  Turns out you can turn over the club leadership and get even worse crap.  So you better be sure when you pick the new team otherwise just hang on to your current crew until a better option presents itself.

I went 16-0 in my dynasty league this season three years after a complete reset with losing seasons the first two years while building my team.  I’m the guy you want.

Unless you get Baalke completely out of the building, he will find a way to snake his way back into making critical decisions. That guy is a weasel and cannot be trusted. The cancer needs to be completely removed or it will just keep coming back.
