Have we been too harsh on Baalke?

I’m gonna be honest guys, I’m coming around to him. I really like pretty much everything we’ve done this off season. He’s/they’ve massively improved the roster, especially the defence which looks insanely good now.

He also seems to have a really good relationship with Pederson. He seems a lot more relaxed with this HC, even joking around in the press conferences.

I know there will be people saying we haven’t helped Trevor enough in the draft, but we have signed Kirk, Jones, Engram, Sheriff and drafted a new starting centre. That’s a lot of additions offensively, replacing mostly oft injured players. We also have ETN available this year.
The other knock will probably be the Travon Walker pick. That one we’ll just have to see. Schematically he feels like he fits what they’re trying to do given the Lloyd and Muma picks.

Anyone else coming around? Obviously everyone could bust and it be an absolute disaster, but for the first time in a long time I don’t feel like there’s massive holes all over the roster

I think he did well in the draft last year and this year. The only thing is he didn't do much in free agency last year where as he did this year. I'm assuming one of the reasons for that is because his job is on the line.

I think he's done well this off season.  I like his self-deprecating humor.  Much of our opinion of him was shaped by media narrative.  If nothing else, there are certainly no grounds right now for the reflexive Baalke hate.

This Oehser interview with Baalke is a pretty good glimpse into his personnel philosophy, collaboration with Pederson, and he touches on Trevor's progress as well.

I've been on board Day One w/respect to Baalke. View my past opinions of his decision makings. In 2021 he made personnel decisions that represented Meyer's philosophy. TL16 and ETN was a shoe-in I might add. In 2022 he made personnel decisions that represented Peterson's philosophy, Thank the Lord above.

Along/w him bringing in an assistant GM to help evaluate roster talent, Baalke is deserving of respect. That CLOWNING [BLEEP] has to stop. Pull the plug. About Face and get The Hell On. It's disrespectful. I've said it before and I'll say it again Baalke deserves respect until proves that he doesn't. So far he hasn't proven that he doesn't.

Says Baalke deserves respect.

Justifies it with ETN pick.

Be specific.  What, exactly, has he done while he's been here.  Who the hell cares what he's done with other teams.

Not a fan of him or the owner. I am a fan of the team. I want the best for us fans. All the wasted time on all the losers we have employed just want results.

Baalke seems to have done a great job this off-season. But if it was me I would have quit rather than involve myself with Urban Meyer. He is very lucky to still have a job.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

As general manager in San Francisco, his team's records went as follows:

Season 1:  13-3
Season 2:  11-4-1
Season 3:  12-4
Season 4:  8-8
Season 5:  5-11
Season 6:  2-14

Are you unable to see the trend?

As for Jacksonville, the team's record is 4-29 since he's been here.  You can make excuses that he wasn't the final decision maker, but if nothing else, as Director of Player Personnel and General Manager, his job was to advise.  Obviously, his advice didn't do much good if we went 4-29.  Baalke has done nothing to deserve respect.

I'd like to see a different, trustworthy, competent GM installed still.

The only thing stopping me from continuing to "Clown" the organization for retaining him is that the Jury is still out on a number of key pieces. Depending on how the following players perform will indicate if he survives the axe for another day/season:

Travon Walker - Urban is gone, there is no one to scapegoat on this. Baalke pounded the drum for him over Aiden Hutchinson and all other players in the draft, even in a weak draft he went against the grain; If Travon hits or if he becomes Tyson Alualu 2.0 9 spots higher will go a long way in factoring his grade as GM.

Travis Etienne - This could be wiped off on Urban wanting his "explosive playmaker, slash /, or Offensive Weapon" but at the end of the day, if you're going to draft a RB in the first round ... they'd better get 1,000 yards and have production when you already had a 1k rusher in James Robinson on the roster that was a UDFA.

Brandon Scherff - he's incredible when healthy, we shed Norwell's bloated contract and rolled it into another interior Olinemen. Scherff has been hurt a lot the last few seasons, if that trend continues here or he (like Norwell) doesn't live up to the lofty $ we gave him, that's a strike thrown against Baalke's tenure.

Christian Kirk - Another big $ acquisition. He'll need to show he can produce with higher expectations, and show he's on the opposite end of the spectrum that Jerry Porter was for this team.

Trevor Lawrence - We got the annointed one, the chosen one from the prophecy. He's billed as a "Can't Miss" prospect. It's usually QB's or a lack thereof that doom administrations/Front Offices. If Baalke squanders him or stunts his development by not building the roster out around him, we need to pull the plug quickly.

The way I see it, Khan is giving them this year and next to show results. He tends to grade patiently over a 4 year stretch unless the stench is so bad he has to toss it out sooner (Mularkey & Urban Meyer). Bradley got 4 years, Marrone got 4 years. Baalke has already been here for 2 seasons, so i'd venture to guess he'll receive 2 more to finish out a 4 year report card as the fans are a powder keg of clown makeup in regards to his tenure as GM here.
Championship Formula:

1) Draft Trevor Lawrence!
2) Play good physical Defense!
3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy!
4) ???
5) Blank #2
6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

I'd add Tyson Campbell, Andre Cisco, Luke Fortner, Evan Engram as well.

There are several acquisitions who could legitimize or tarnish Baalke's body of work with the Jaguars over the next year or two. The jury is still very much out of the courtroom.

I have been harsh on him but I'm willing to see past it if he can get us on the right path. His first year he was under Caldwell's thumb, the next year he was under Urbs. He had some mixed results with the 49ers. Let's see what he can do here running the show himself.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I don't love Balkes track record in terms of his drafting ability. But I do not hate him on the personal level that everyone seems to in this fanbase.

Absolutely not, quite the other way around. The Jags are bad until they prove they aren't, and Baalke is bad until he proves he isn't. In no way shape or form has either the franchise or the front office earned the benefit of the doubt. The impetus is 100% on them to earn respect, they do not deserve it.
