Just gonna reply and thank you for detailed, insightful preview. Hope after this weekend the Loins give you many reasons to cheer Wink

You are very welcome!

Hopefully, both teams won't suffer any significant injuries during the game.

I think this game is going to be a combination of a physical game and a chess match.  Both Jags HC Doug Pederson and Lions OC Ben Johnson are innovative coaches.  Defensive Coordinators Aaron Glenn and Mike Caldwell have to be on top of their respective games as DCs.

Hello D6.  Just wanted to say the last time I think I saw you post on here we had Rashean Mathis on our team.  The Lions have been a fun team to watch and have been competitive just like the Jaguars this year.  Lawrence has been playing as well as any QB in the league over the past month and is just throwing lasers out there lately.  May the better team win,  and hope everyone comes out of the game unscathed on the injury front.  The Jags can save their season so I'm obviously just hoping for a respectable,  business-like W.  Thank you for the insights this week and may you have a blessed holiday.

Hope Lloyd can turn it around but not a good sign for a guy the Jags traded up for.

Not worried. You have to remember Lloyd missed basically all of camp and the preseason with the hamstring injury. Muma got all of those needed reps and it's showing right now.

Lloyd's hamstring probably isn't 100% either. He still looks hobbled at times.

Yup. Lloyd jumped directly into the fire after spending all preseason watching from the sidelines. He'll be just fine.

I dunno, I bet the Packers fans aren't particularly fond of them although it's more of a division rivalry thing. The same reason that my brother the Bears' fan is always talking trash about them so there's that. I always liked Barry Sanders FWIW and I think I'm the only person on Earth who understood why he retired in his prime.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

1 total TD from Lamar. Held them to FGs all day. This is an elite QB former MVP who reaks havoc on most teams, so yeah i'd say to his standard we held him back

Lamar had his second best day of the season in terms of passing yards and third best day in terms of rushing yards.  Lamar helping move the team into good field position allowed them to score 27 points which tied their third best of the season.  I don't see this as a great defensive performance.  Our offense saved the day for the Jaguars.

This could be a damp squib of a game or an absolute shootout. Both teams have got better but still have weaknesses.

I'm going to say 45-42 Jags and Lawrence to keep his game winning magic going.

So it's probably going to end 6-3. Sorry!

Welcome back D6, always enjoy reading your takes.

I think you are right about Lamar. He mostly did his usual thing.

The defense did just enough but not a great performance.

The big credit to our defense in this matchup is three redzone stops to force FG attempts and the two fumble recoveries (one forced) that set up 10 easy points for our offense.  None of those things really aligned with "limiting Lamar" but just generally playing well at crucial moments.

Yeah like I said.. I get the critiques but some people blow it out of the water. If the defense was as bad as everyone acts like it is, we very easily coulda given up 40+ without the redzone stops/fumbles.

who ever wins this game it will be a final score of something like 17-14 or 23-20.

First of all, Jags have already blown two teams out.

the game vs colts was only won 24-0 cause colts players thought there was still a clown out by local jags fans ,and  the big win vs chargers was only cause LA had tons of key players out with injurys at the time. Jags are not a good team ,yet, they get lucky. Lost to winless Texans in Jacksonville. Thats still Texans only win.

This is a game I feel like we need to run the ball and stop the run for the most part. Use the run to set up the pass. Det. run defense is 29th in the league

Stop the run and have Campbell follow and shadow Brown. The good thing about this game compared to if we played them a few weeks back is we don't have to worry about Hockenson

Thanks, Josh!  Same to you!

After seeing you message, I reflected back to the Jaguars OT win over the Lions in November, 2004 when David Garrard connected with Jimmy Smith on a 3rd Down play for the Game Winning TD. This was the game that I realized that Rashean Mathis belonged in the conversation with the top NFL CBs.  Though it was a windy day in Jacksonville and Joey Harrington struggled mightily, Mathis had the best game for an NFL CB that day, that I saw in the 2004 season.  If not for Eddie Drummond's two Punt Returns for TDs, this game wouldn't have even been close to going to OT.  RB Kevin Jones was in essence the Lions Offense that day.  In very large part to Mathis.

When the Jaguars moved on from Mathis after the 2012 season, I was thrilled the Lions signed him in the summer of 2013.  Mathis was a major asset for the Lions on the field for 2 seasons, before injuries cut short his final NFL season.  Mathis' impact from his days with the Lions is still being felt in Philadelphia. Mathis was a mentor to CB Darius Slay, who the Lions drafted in the 2nd Round in 2013. Slay went from a raw CB out of Mississippi State to one of the best CBs in the league, in large part because Mathis took Slay under his wings.

"Goff is averaging more touchdown passes at home (2.5) this season than any quarterback in the league not named Patrick Mahomes (who’s averaged 2.6 on the year). The Lions are averaging the third-most points per game (30.5) at home this season, behind only the Bills and Bengals. Detroit has the fourth-highest implied team total and gets a shaky Jacksonville defense allowing the second-most yards per play over the last three weeks in a home matchup indoors. Goff should be considered a top-10 fantasy QB this week — when his WRs are healthier than at any point this season as well."

From a fantasy article I was reading. Pretty interesting Goff stat.

Thanks. JagFan81.

An added dimension to this game from the standpoint of the Lions Defense attempting to limit the impact of Travis Lawrence, is that edge player James Houston was signed from the Practice Squad early this week. Houston was elevated to the Game Day roster against the Bills on Thanksgiving Day and had 2 sacks on only 5 snaps. Not the clean up type of sacks.

James Houston is familiar to UF and SEC fans in general, as he was with the Gators until transferring to Jackson St. for his final college season.  Houston was drafted by the Lions in the latter part of Round 6 in the 2022 Draft.  He showed promise in training camp but didn't survive the cutdown to 53 players.  Houston cleared waivers and signed a Practice Squad contract with the Lions.  Then, taking advantage of his first regular season game opportunity 8 days ago.

Even last season, Jared Goff's 3 best and highest scoring games were at home (vs. Minnesota, Arizona, and Green Bay).  With all 3 games, the Lions only 3 wins of the season, coming in December and January.

Having said this, in most of the Lions home games this season, Goff made at least one throw that resulted in an interception (2 returned for TDs) or putting the ball in harm's way.
