He did?  Must’ve been before the Doug hire as an attempt at mercy for the kid.

I liked Vic and I miss his get off my lawn takes.  Oesher hasn’t come close to filling his shoes.

One thing Vic said that I believed at the time but I’ve since found to be false is the extent to which coaching matters.  He said at one point that NFL coaches are interchangeable and that talent eventually wins out if not immediately.  I think you can throw Meyer out as “not an NFL coach” so I don’t mean to contrast him with Doug here as an example, but I’ve watched football long enough to see successful coaches like Doug change franchises and and still have success with new rosters.  One instance isn’t enough to make that argument, but I’ve seen similar instances like that enough to know that although coaching may not necessarily trump talent, it certainly has more impact than Vic suggested.

I think if I had to assign percentages, I came away from Vic thinking that 90% of what contributed to consistent winning teams was talent and the other 10% was coaching.  I think that’s probably more 70/30ish in reality though. And there aren’t 32 really good NFL head coaches so they aren’t, in fact, interchangeable.

Case in point regarding talent/coaching, Belichick is without question one of the greatest coaches ever and can’t at the moment overcome the talent deficit within his division, so talent clearly still matters a good bit.

Sorry to derail, but these thoughts had been on my mind recently with regards to Vic.

The argument against this is comparing Russ' season with Geno's.
Good coaching matters. Poor coaching matters.

I think a number of coaches are in that middling area where they are neither poor nor good, just good enough. Marrone would fit here, nothing special, no significant development of players, but no embarrassing levels of underpreparedness, either. They're fine if you are ok with treading water for a while, but don't expect a room full of lombardis when their time is done.

Why would bolt fans want to pay not only for travel, but for seats to watch their team lose?

Good God... That Vic Ketchman was a total disaster for the old message board.

There was a very loud group of Ketchman apostles that would take his word as gospel, and anyone that disagreed with the holy one was a "mouth breather" or some other insult. Some of the most toxic conversations were about BAP V. Need and Jimmies and Joes over Xs and Os.

Honestly, I never cared for the guy because of how mean and rude his biggest supporters were regarding these two specific topics. Especially when it's clear that Coaching freaking matters!! And you obviously must consider your needs when drafting players. It's nice coming back here and seeing we don't have those ridiculous arguments anymore.

Vic Ketchman did indeed say we should have traded Trevor’s pick. I know because I asked him and he published his answer on his site.

According to him, there was such a dearth of talent on the team it would be better to trade the #1 draft pick for multiple others to fill in the gaps.

I said it before and I’ll say it again, Vic Ketchman is a yankee through and through, so he held the Jaguars organization, and Jacksonville, in minor contempt. Underneath his folksy veneer, he’s a snob.

Preach!

You know what's awesome?  Vic went to spend the rest of his time in Green Bay right?  LOL, how many SB's has he got to witness since moving from warm and beautiful Jacksonville out to the damp, dark, cold frozen tundra of GB?  He's had to toil his golden years in a [BLEEP] hole having to defend a pretentious drama queen like A-A-ron...  Karma, is a [BLEEP].  Ain't it?

There should be no reverence when speaking that dude's name in Duval.  He's not worthy of such praise.

I imagine some people only bought them to resell them and make money ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He didn’t go there for the super bowls, he went there for the pension as I recall.

Nothing like spending your golden years freezing your [BLEEP] off...  LOL

Personally, I'd rather stay here with whatever "pension" the jags would have provided and get to enjoy the weather and scenery here.  No, I think it was obvious he wanted to go to Green Bay because the job was more prestigious.  And look what he got.  0 superbowls and a team beholden to a psychedelic's eating hipster doofus that chokes in the playoffs.

He didn’t stay there after he retired. He lives in a little South Carolina town now. Like a lot of yankees, he’s willing to over come his snobbery to enjoy a cheaper cost of living and warm weather.

Ahhh, I didn't know that.  I thought he was still in Green Bay, lol.

Yeah, he kept his blog alive and pretty much became a Panthers fan.  He's been there for a few years now.

People need to put on a freaking coat and get their butts to the stadium. No excuses.

Yeah that's no excuse. Steelers fans would sell out a stadium in 30 degree weather even if a stipulation was you xpuld only wear a T shirt.

SB Dream matchup

I say Jags vs Bucs. Trevor vs Brady for only Trevor to retire Brady and that be his last game.

The majority of them are aftermarket seats which have serious markup. I suspect a lot of people may be waiting for game day to see if they come down but you're right, there's going to be some empty seats which is not going to be a great look on TV but it should still be loud.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

You said the same thing before last game and the stadium was slammed. Let’s wait and see.

BIG John Henderson for the first Duuuval. You know he's gettin smacked before that Duuuval!!! They should have Will Smith come walking out in a Chargers jersey and smack him and then Big John corrects him proper and turns to the Mic and yells Duuuval!!!

No, actually, I believe I said the opposite before last game.

I think what happened last game was, we started with a lot of seats already sold to season ticket holders, and we just had to sell out the rest of the seats.   We're starting from zero this week.

I feel like everything was on the line against Tennessee. It was the culmination of the entire season. And now we're playing with house money. So I just don't feel the same level of anxiety that I felt last week. To me, winning the division is so much bigger than winning a playoff game. I know I'll be very nervous Saturday night when the game kicks off. But I won't die if we lose. If we had lost to Tennessee, I would've been depressed about it for months. Probably because of my experience in 1999.
