Walker Little's future

#41

Is there any chance Cam could move over to RT and have Walker play LT?  I hate the idea of trying to go with a rookie RT trying to protect Trevor.

Little
Robinson
Fortner
Scherff
Rookie at 24

Depending on the quality of the rookie, this could be a really good OL for Lawrence next season.

Cam Robinson will NOT be a Jaguar for the 2024 season, He will be cut after this season to get back 18m. I know people want to focus on the now, but as a GM you have to look ahead, Cam will not be here. Drafting a tackle now make sense for so many reasons. Obviously if there is a big run on OL before we pick then we should go to another position like CB or whatever.

I have nothing against Cam playing left tackle if he's the best man for the job and wins out ... And I've nothing against him for expressing his desire to play there either ... but from a purely team building perspective i think he has a bit too much leverage over who plays where in the first five!

It's a personal opinion, but im never keen on having the team back themselves into a corner where a player has too much leverage over what goes on, on the field. If the level of play is Tom Brady (or, more relevant to this particular situation) a Trent Williams, then you have to accept that situation for the level of performance your getting, otherwise, and with all due respect to Cam, in this situation, id prefer the coaching staff had the whip hand and a degree of flexibility in terms of getting the best line on the field.

At the minute if he puts his foot down at 'left tackle or bust' the coaching staff have their hands tied to a degree over who plays where with only two preferable tackles on the roster. If we can get hold of a decent right tackle in the first couple of rounds ... Well, things change quite a bit in the locker room politics department. Not to mention the fact that youve always the chance of upgrading two positions with one pick if you slide one to guard for a year.

You can play Cam at left tackle, you can throw it open to competition, you can ask him to play RT, ask him to play guard, ask little to shift to RT, put the rookie at guard with an eye on sliding out next season and if Cam decides ultimately he wants to play left tackle and nowhere else the team isnt backed into a corner! I'd trust Pederson to be savvy enough to get the best five guys out there ... As long as we give him enough rope!

Of course the question is (for me anyways) will one of the better tackles get to 24 ... Darnell Wright seems to be the most likely and even that is probably 50/50 at best.

I think I stated in another thread to NYC is be happy to sit pat on our picks... I'll be honest, Im not always a big one for moving up (generally speaking) but I'm happy to admit thatthe more i think about it the more that on this occasion the closer we get to the draft, for a good right tackle the potential value of the pick means id be happy to make a move up if it came to it.

Sure, there is a chance, but why introduce change to two positions instead of one?  I will bet right now Cam will be our Left tackle (if healthy) Fotner will be our center and Schariff our right guard.  Now, let's gather a group of players and find a way to fill those holes. That is all....

If Little plays as well in camp as he did the last 6 games then he'll be the LT, and I have little reason to doubt that he will.

Certainly will be interesting to watch and see.  I have been wrong before...lol

Walker is a natural LT, his build and athleticism are made in a lab for the position.

Cam Robinson might be an All-Pro playing on the right side. The problem is that he's always played LT (except for a year of Guard & RT early on at "Bama) and that after that contract extension he VIEWS himself as the left tackle.

For this year Little will probably play RT and switch to LT next year if we move on from Cam or he becomes a cap casualty. Although I think the team might be better off with Walker on the left side & Cam's mean streak on the right side.
Championship Formula:

1) Draft Trevor Lawrence!
2) Play good physical Defense!
3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy!
4) ???
5) Blank #2
6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

This team needs to draft an offensive tackle with guard versatility no later than RD2. Just my opinion.

Failing to restock this offensive line with better talent will come back to haunt us. Hear me now. Believe me later.

Both lines need good players at this point.

True story. We've seen teams have damn near elite lines and then one or two seasons later it's a weak spot due to injuries and free agency

Hear, Hear, gotta prep for life after Cam. Keep the line young, talented and cheap while we pay the big bucks to the QB. Can't afford to be throwing $20M at a FA to fill in the gaps

As per this interview Little knows what he's up against w/respect to which position he'll play in 2023. If the coaching staff deems Cam to be healthy then Little will play RT, unless the Jaguars draft an player within the 2023 NFL Draft that can surplant him. One season later Cam just may follow the path of Taylor and bolt via. FA to which will open up the LT for Little to play in 2024.

Fasting forward. If Little's fifth year isn't picked up after the 2024 NFL season and or not tagged then he gets the opportunity to taste the market. So Ya see, our salary cap may has an say so to which whom plays where.

Perhaps he’ll get traded this season before the trade deadline to a team whose left tackle goes down. Then Walker shifts over and a rookie takes over at right tackle.

Little was a 2nd round pick and isn't eligible for a 5th year option. Only 1st rounders.
