Thurmond visiting

Tampa Bay appears out of the running for Walter Thurmond.

http://fansided.com/2014/03/14/nfl-free-...-thurmond/

It looks like he met with Washington on Friday. That looks like he has visited SF, Wash, Jax and of course Seattle. I can't find anything else on him having visits set up with additional teams. We could have a decision soon.

I wouldn't rule out Tampa. They were expecting to sign Tillman, but now he re-signs with Chicago.

He won't sign here. I'm saying SF

Quote:Umm...really trying not to be the wet blanket here....

But I really don't understand the excitement in this thread.....

This isn't Darelle Revis we're bringing in, or Joe Haden...

This guy has been a spot player his whole career and has one career INT....

for him being "long" ....he's 5' 11".....4.53...

Nothing special here that I can see....

And we had a poster above post something like "Gratz + Thurmond" WOOT!?

I dunno.....I don't get some of you....

I'm not even sure this guy is better than Will Blackmon. (what we had)

People hear "Seattle" and go OMGZZZZZZ!!!!!!!
Didnt allow a touchdown last year. Had 5 passes defensed. Only gave up one penalty. Finished with a nice positive grade from PFF.

If we put a solid pass rush in front of him, I dont see any reason why he couldn't be successful as nickel corner.

I would rather the Jaguars pass on him though. Injury history + it seems like hes looking for a nice contract.

My gut at this point is that he ends up back in Seattle. With Browner leaving town, there's a vacancy at one of the starting CB spots, and he's got as good a shot as anyone of picking it up. I'd see SF as door number two for him, because I really doubt that they want to count on either Eric Wright or Chris Cook as a starter. I think he'd fit in Jacksonville, maybe even as a starter, but I'm one of those who saw Blackmon's return as a sign that the Jaguars weren't expecting to land Thurmond and had moved on.

Browner wasn't even on the team during their Super Bowl run. Byron Maxwell is the starter.

Yeah, but does he remain the starter by default, or would there be a competition? I lean towards the latter because SEA has so many talented corners on the roster.

It's Maxwell's job to lose. Thurmond has his chance after Browner injury, but then he gets a stupid suspension, which along with injuries history I think decrease his market value. He's another mistake away from being suspended for 8 games and teams usually don't like that.

At the end it worked out well for us, because I think Maxwell is better player than WT3 and he deserves to be a starter in 2014. I'd still like to have Thurmond back, but don't see us get him a big, longterm contract.

also, Thurmond latest tweets...

I have no idea what this means, if anything.

Apparently he canceled his trip to Washington before meeting with 49ers. He yesterday left SF without signing with them and SF later signed Chris Cook. So I guess it's between Seattle and Jags, but I really have no idea. We'll probably find out in a day or two.

Curious, from your perspective what you think of DeAngealo Hall's comments recently, particularly about Maxwell being a practice squad level player.

Hall has no room to talk... His team won 2 games! The Hawks won the Super Bowl!

I feel like Seattle players are starting to get a little too hyped around here. There was no reason to gang up on a certain member posting in this thread..

It's a good signing, but it's not much of a big deal.

John Clayton mentioned on his weekly radio show on KIRO in Seattle that Walter Thurmond was offered a 1 year / $ 2 million contract by San Francisco.   If you are interested in hearing the clip,  it can be found around the 7:25 to 7:30 mark at the following link:

That's a pretty insulting offer, even to come in as a nickel.

I was very surprised when hearing the clip.

If Walter Thurmond ends up re-signing with Seattle,  it will add yet another dimension to their bitter rival with San Francisco.

I say spend a little more for Rogers-Cromartie. He is faster and can match up against anybody after what the Colts did getting Nick we need all the corners we can get.

Nicks is a bum who failed to muster one TD last year. As for DRC, I would rather have Thurmond in the Nickel role on a much cheaper contract.
