If you add “and who wouldn’t be getting a look at the Jags if he weren’t the coach’s son” then your perspective would be in focus.  The harder you work to make it seem like being the coaches son has nothing to do with him turning up at the Jags instead of any other NFL team (who have no idea who he is), the more you dig the hole.

I could care less about him.  But I am humoured by ease with which this board decides principle based on expediency.

As much as I want to jump in with sarcastic comments, the truth of the matter is that I don't care if Pederson signs his son, and even takes in 3 foster kids and signs them to the roster, as long as he continues to be one of the best coaches in the NFL.  He's by far the best coach that the Jags have had since Coughlin !!

That 35 year old with 1-2 years of practice is probably a lot better than the 25 year old will be.

In the end it doesn't matter as the 90th or 85th, whatever the last roster spot is at this time of year is, won't be making the roster and let him and his dad have a good family moment in a preseason game.

Agree that neither would be on a roster, but if I am putting effort into one or the other, it's still a young man's game. Much more potential to improve or sustain than someone at the back end of the league's elder statesmanship.

Has any player voiced issues with the distraction of having a 6th string TE who knows the coach stealing their reps?

Simply put, the league is a performance-based organization. Play well, or risk getting cut. Sign good players, or risk getting fireded. Coach the players well, or risk getting canned. If Doug or Trent keep a less talented TE just because he shares chromosomes with the coach, then they are putting their necks on the line. Has that happened yet? Are you that upset that we cut Leonard Taylor to make room for this kid?

Maybe Chaisson turns the corner this year, or maybe he doesn't, but it'd be dumb to make a weak position group even weaker, all while paying somebody who isn't here. You let him play out his final contract year and see what happens.
