When Do the Jags Pick Up a Center

#61

Quote:It lists three guys that may compete in camp.  Doesn't name him a starter.

If you want O-zone on Brewster...

.So... according to Oehser, Brewster is the starting Center for now until his inevitable Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Got it.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Brewster was given a shot at guard and replaced in favor of Rackley.

Rackley.

Let that sink in.  He will need to be having one amazing offseason of improvement to be ready to start at center.

Quote:I just seriously, seriously do not think that Brewster will start at center.   His play at guard was so inept that it's hard to imagine him being able to pull it off without being a major liability.

I think a rookie will get the nod - and if he's not ready right away then McClendon or a FA signing will start until the kid is good to go.
Agree fully. And we had fools on here stating  Brewster was good.  SMH

That's an absurd amount of love for an UDFA who has struggled mightily.

Only a chump boos the home team!

What odds would you give Brewster to seize the opportunity over the offseason to become the starter?  Personally, I think 10%.  He can improve and hopefully makes the roster as a combo backup guard and center.  It is either him or McClendon in that role.

Sure.  A 5-10% chance sounds about right. It's a longshot.

I'd love to see a young player on our roster (Brewster.McClendon, whomever)  fill the role more than "adequately" - but I'm not optimistic about that happening.  And I'm usually very "glass half-full."

According to Ohalloran, we are most likely taking a center in the draft. Im assuming 3rd/4th rd given the depth of this draft. I know OHalloran isnt running the front office and he truly doesnt know what we are going to do, I believe he gets better info than most of us...with the exception of Alfie who knows all..

So im assuming we take Swanson, Richburg or Martin.

Quote:At LG Brewster was blown up several times.  Just completely bull rushed.  Not sure how that's not  a detriment at center.

Do you not remember Meester as a rookie LG?

Brewster looked really bad in his second year, though.  He's broken a hand and an ankle since joining the league and the current regime owes him no loyalty. I hope he comes to camp ready to compete for the spot  - but....  he's got his work cut out.

4th round. Stork from FSU.

Brewster's issue is and has been that he doesn't have enough strength. I think that if was a matter of just getting into a pro weight program and getting stronger, that it would've happened by now.

Mike Brewster is nothing more than a depth guy, and a poor one at that. The Jaguars could be targeting a guy like Weston Richburg in the 2nd round, he's a really athletic center that should thrive in our ZBS, Gil Brandt compared him to Alex Mack, I think he compares favorably to Chris Meyers of the Houston Texans.

I cant tell if you're agreeing with me or trying to argue with me but I agree with what you're saying. Not a big Brewster believer.

Yeah, we could use a good Guard!

I like McClendon's size and overall athletic ability.  I would not shed a single tear if he displaces Brewster.  There stands to be a good chance the Jaguars will move up in the draft (mid round) if they see a center they love.  There are plenty of draft eligible centers who would be great fits in our system this year.

I'm gonna go ahead and throw this here since the pertinent info is regarding Center/Guard...

I'd be slightly worried if we have a rookie starting at Guard and Center.. especially since they would more than likely not be taken in the first 2 or 3 rounds.

I totally agree ... 2 rookies side by side to me is a little risky.

I still can't figure why we dont get an experienced Center to support the new RG we draft
