Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

The ending of this clip is what fascinates me. He says that Trevor Lawrence is elevating the play of those around him. Engram was a bust before Jacksonville. Kirk was a good receiver but not a great one. Zay Jones was just a guy. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

They were all already at their career highs regular season wise. Ridley will hopefully be back in 2024. He's having a good, but not great year, which can easily change with six games left. He's at the minimum, maybe 250 - 300 yards shy from having his 2nd best season in the NFL statistically already in just year one with Lawrence in this system with two years of rust that's being dusted off. However, if you go back and look at the drops? He's legitimately probably hit those marks already if he hauls them in. Easily. I think he's dropped probably close to 150 yards through the air and probably at least 2, 3 TD's. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Personally - I don't technically agree with that - as stated. He's not wrong, but... Engram was a talented move TE who was a coveted prospect coming out and eventually ran into an ugly battle with dropped passes in NY. It happens. I don't know if that makes him a bust - maybe - but it gave a team enough incentive to move on from him. He has worked hard to right the ship and the staff has put him in good position to succeed. TL is a positive factor in the equation for sure, but not the catalyst IMO. Hard work+offense designed around individual skill sets+TL = Engram achieving potential Kirk - like EE - has benefitted from Pederson and co. designing around his strengths (perhaps more efficiently than his last stop) and a QB who puts it on him more consistently in most games. Zay was a big talent being almost completely squandered by the Raiders. His tape there revealed a guy consistently getting open but not getting quality throws or having routes wasted by bad OL play ending the chance of a target. Yes TL is making them better than their former situations, but so is the well tailored playbook, the coaching, and being bought in to working harder at their craft. He definitely elevated Zay Jones, Engram had been pretty good prior to Daniel Jones and Kirk certainly has been a little better numbers wise but he was behind Fitz and D Hop in Arizona so that's probably why.
This is some [BLEEP]. From NFL.com QB rankings, they have to point out the penalty to put us on the goal line, but his INT was an "errant throw" and no mention of a missed call. They also have Dak as the #1 QB and Stroud at #5. Dak has been good, but I'm sorry he's not better than Mahomes.
"After an errant pass resulted in an interception and a go-ahead touchdown for the Texans on the ensuing drive, Lawrence stared adversity in the face and told it to return to its hotel room, leading an explosive (and penalty-aided) eight-play, 75-yard scoring drive" https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-qb-index-we...nfl-season

We probably said the same about OL stats about 50 pages ago, too. Excellent QBs will make OK linemen look like good linemen. Just glad that our QB is elevating good to really good, and not "would be on any other franchise's PS" to "serviceable". We are in a good place. It's been too long since we've been able to say that. The lesson, as always, is that the national media's coverage of the jaguars is minimal at best and as a result the analysis is subpar. In their defense, there are probably too many teams and players for each person to cover so you'll never get great analysis of every player or team. At some point fans need to quit bother reading / listening to it. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. Draft philosophy is all fluff.

Lawrence was second 2 only Mahomes from week 9 on last year, led multiple comebacks one of which was a playoff game which for some reason is used against him. Yeah I get it he was the reason they were down but he is also the reason we were able to put up the points needed to over come it. Manning wasn't able to do it when he did it in his sixth playoff game. Hot take I don't get the hype with Stroud what he did against us isn't sustainable over his career. go look at any QBs stats when their time to throw is over 2.5 seconds it's not good. He's not going to have an oline that can hold blocks like that his whole career, I honestly think it hurt them at the end of the game because the oline was gased from have to hold blocks longer on a per play bases.

He looks like he's going to be a great QB. How does he compare to Trevor? I don't really care. I don't feel the need to put down Stroud in order to "defend" Trevor, which a lot of people seem to be doing. They're both going to be great. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he's bad or can't be great but people are acting like he has no weaknesses. there is also people starting try and make an argument that he is the second best QB in the league. That's the hype I'm referring to. I agree who's better than who doesn't matter in the end its a team game and if Stroud is better than Lawrence but as a team the Jags are better than the Texans then who cares. He both had a horrible first half and a great second half. That's why, the comeback isn't needed had he played well to start. As seen earlier that year when we demolished the Chargers.
Trevor's on his way to becoming a hybrid QB of Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and John Elway.
Has the height and processing speed of Manning. The gun for an arm like Favre. The grittiness, willingness, mobility and penchant for making a big play by land or air like Elway. He'll eventually win a Superbowl or two just like those guys and he's going to have some gut punchers that make you mad from time to time. That's the nature of his game. I think he'll be one of the best in the business for another decade at the minimum. He's nowhere near his ceiling yet. Just enjoy it. We got ourselves a franchise QB. Without question.
