Monroe Traded

Quote:coach speak.

You wanna have a little wager on Monroe being signed there long term??? Sig bet/ anything?

The only way Monroe doesn't sign there long term is if he sufferes a career threatening injury in the next few weeks, or suddenly turns into Guy Whimper.

So, this is coachspeak, but Caldwell saying Marcedes is a cornerstore/core guy/whatever isn't?

On Wisconsin.

Lewis should be traded. Or contract renegotiated. But you can't trade for injury players.

Quote:So....we got pennies on the dollar in return for Monroe AND have to pay most of the salary.....good job there, Caldwell. Anytime you want to sell your house or your car, you come to me first, ok?...

Yep....and then you think back to when Caldwell spoke about Marcedes being one of the "cornerstones" going forward....some serious red flags turning up regarding the ability of this GM...

I think honest equal value for Monroe is a 2nd + a 4th.

Its not a rental. You and others can keep repeating this falsehood all you want, but its not going to make it true.

This isn't the NY Yankees adding a cog at the trade deadline for their playoff run.....this is the Ravens adding a fixture for their team going forward, not sure why some of you refuse to see this other than you are in "Jags damage control" with this trade and trying to make it seem not as bad as it was.

I love that "I honestly feel" crap. Why would you think your feelings have anything to do with Monroe's value?

You're a real feelings type of guy, aren't you. I bet you love Bravo and Lifetime.

The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.

If nothing else, this trade proves that players aren't worth what most of us think they are worth.

All those "lets trade MJD or Lewis for a (insert round) pick seem a bit silly now.

Players on 12 game contracts aren't worth very much.

He signs onto this message board everyday to just have the same argument.

The dude clearly has some serious issues. Maybe we should feel bad for him.

Neither one of them should or would be on this team in 3 years, Geno Hayes is a stop gap player just like Daryl Smith would've been had he been retained, only difference Daryl Smith is 100x better then Geno Hayes

So you all but admit that, big picture-wise, letting Daryl walk really isn't a huge deal.

And if you somehow think Caldwell was looking at anything other than big-picture when he took over this team, your expectations are the problem.

Getting worse to get better is a big deal, Daryl signed a ONE year deal in Baltimore. Keeping him around another year would've allowed us to work on upgrading the line which needs help. I have more of an issue with letting young talent like Cox and Knighton walk in all honesty.

Why keep Cox and Knighton when they've given you no reason to do so with their play?

Maybe so, but if we're only keeping Daryl for one year to upgrade the D-line, we're still going to need to replace Daryl next year. This way, the team got a headstart on evaluating younger, potential replacements. It's essentially a tryout for someone like Geno Hayes.

Does it really matter that much to you if the "tryout" takes place during this season or next since you admit Daryl would be gone rather quickly anyway?

Again, keeping Daryl for one year, as you say above, doesn't do a whole heck of a lot for this team two or three years down the road, when we sure as heck better be competing.

Letting him go was a big picture move from Caldwell, and one that I don't have a problem with, considering what most of us knew the team was going to be this season.

And I like Daryl. I'd have loved to see him still play on this team -- if we were anything close to being ready to compete.

Maybe we'd have to replace Daryl Maybe not, once they hit 30 it's a year to year thing. Look how long Ray played as long as Daryl was playing at a high enough level we could've kept him around until we found a replacement.

Same point I've been trying to drive home, we have the same holes on this roster as we had a year ago minus one CB.........that's not doing a good job rebuilding it's more like continuing the suck we've gotten use to.

You've got a roster with HUGE problems at QB, RB, OG, C, CB, DE a year later you still have HUGE if not BIGGER problems at QB, RB, OG, C, DE you've essentially done nothing for a year.

You'll be amazed at how fixing the problem at QB will help make other problems seem not as big.

You have a 50% turnover rate and have to teach all the new players. What do people expect to be 4-0
