Yup, they go up every year.  They haven't announced what the tag figures will be yet but the value of the franchise tag is based on the average of the top five salaries at a given position over the past five years, and adjusted for the salary cap figure for a given season.

I think this is also what's so confusing to me. The Jags finally have a player that they drafted, who is excelling at a premium position and they want to nickel and dime them.

Allen is worth every penny. He has played in 16 or more games in 4 of 5 seasons. He has shown up in big games (tacks week 18 last year). He loves this team and community. He has expressed multiple times about WANTING to play here. Pay him and lock down the elite pass rusher for 5 years.

Yeah I'm there with you on Ridley as well.  An "in-season extension" was not reached.  The 3rd rounder will be the comp and is a sunk cost at this point.  We are giving up the 3rd as trade comp whether we re-sign him or not in the offseason.  We are not likely to find his level of talent in the 3rd round at WR and probably a lot of other positions as well. If he wants to continue playing here, I would welcome him back on an appropriate deal.

Unless he's been a head case and that fact has been kept away from the media this whole time, he's appeared to have been a relatively model citizen while here and productive enough. It may not have been to the level that some expected, but if you look beyond the stats you can see he is more talented than many NFL WRs.  If anything, his market value isn't as high as he had hoped which should make him more affordable if we are aiming to keep him.

From our perspective, yes.  From Ridley's perspective, with his missed income the past couple of years, I think he might have a strong resentment to being tagged. This is very likely his last chance at a decent sized bite at the apple.   I think best case scenario is he tests the market which hopefully has become luke warm for him and chooses to sign a reasonable 4-5 year deal here with the first two guaranteed with enough money to keep him happy.   There is still more football to played, however.  Perhaps he ramps it up a notch during these win or go home games this weekend and hopefully beyond.
