Franchise tag next year will likely be about $23 million. Like salaries, it increases every year. And it all counts towards that year's cap. We show less advertisements to registered users. They haven't announced what the tag figures will be yet but the value of the franchise tag is based on the average of the top five salaries at a given position over the past five years, and adjusted for the salary cap figure for a given season.(01-03-2024, 07:03 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote: I think he is smarter than a player we had here in the past. He's not going to lose that 21 mil. The team always has the leverage with the tag. That's the whole point of the tag.

Facts. "He has to prove it again for me to give him a contract". Get outta here. Josh Allen is the type of player you pony up for. He WANTS to be here. He has exceeded his draft position. He plays the second most important position in football and yet some of you are really trying to slow play this. The Jags messed up by not extending him last off season and now they have to pay up even more. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! The more I dug into his advanced stats and read NFL defensive coaches opinions on pressure vs sacks and how to interpret analytics, I altered my thinking on that. Then this year happed and I have zero doubts about paying him top 5 money at his position. We trudged through a desert of bad pass rushers in all of the many years between Tony Brackens and Yannick Ngakoue. Yet folks want to let a bird in hand fly the coop. We trudged through years of ineptitude and [BLEEP] stories at WR between Jimmy Smith and Christian Kirk and now folks are like "Yeah 1000 yards from Ridley is nice, but he's no Calvin Johnson, PASS!" Folks who don't want to retain quality talent at market value too easily forget how easy and horrible it is for a franchise to miss on pick after pick and FA after FA for years on end. I suppose this fanbase is seldom accustomed to what is required to retain top talent because we almost never have any to keep around. The Jags finally have a player that they drafted, who is excelling at a premium position and they want to nickel and dime them.(01-04-2024, 10:54 AM)Cleatwood Wrote: https://twitter.com/_John_Shipley/status...54836?s=20 Allen is worth every penny. He has played in 16 or more games in 4 of 5 seasons. He has shown up in big games (tacks week 18 last year). He loves this team and community. He has expressed multiple times about WANTING to play here. Pay him and lock down the elite pass rusher for 5 years.

An "in-season extension" was not reached. The 3rd rounder will be the comp and is a sunk cost at this point. We are giving up the 3rd as trade comp whether we re-sign him or not in the offseason. We are not likely to find his level of talent in the 3rd round at WR and probably a lot of other positions as well. If he wants to continue playing here, I would welcome him back on an appropriate deal. Unless he's been a head case and that fact has been kept away from the media this whole time, he's appeared to have been a relatively model citizen while here and productive enough. It may not have been to the level that some expected, but if you look beyond the stats you can see he is more talented than many NFL WRs. If anything, his market value isn't as high as he had hoped which should make him more affordable if we are aiming to keep him. We show less advertisements to registered users. From Ridley's perspective, with his missed income the past couple of years, I think he might have a strong resentment to being tagged. This is very likely his last chance at a decent sized bite at the apple. I think best case scenario is he tests the market which hopefully has become luke warm for him and chooses to sign a reasonable 4-5 year deal here with the first two guaranteed with enough money to keep him happy. There is still more football to played, however. Perhaps he ramps it up a notch during these win or go home games this weekend and hopefully beyond.

It's from a Nick Cannon movie. His buddy said he wouldn't do it in a game and the first time he done it he got a sack and his friend said he didn't do it right so he did it again and I guess it just stuck lol |
