Why would I make Allen the highest paid player in league history last year if I didn't want to?? You guys wanted to trade him last year before the deadline, but now suddenly he was in the conversation of being the highest paid player this past off season? What mental gymnastics are you trying to use here? We likely could of extended him at like $16-18m+ per last year, instead we're looking $23-25m+ per now. The team [BLEEP] around and found out. Good for Allen. Nobody knows truly what Yan was offered, only twitter rumors, so stop with that. Also, you don't care about sack numbers when it comes to Yan, but you care about sack numbers when it comes to Bosa, or other players not named Yan right? Hilarious.
I think Allen gets the bag. ? agree with the fact the team gambled and lost. However, this also likely played a role in lighting a fire under Allen.

Allen has always had the fire, the only difference now is he actually has a capable rusher/threat on the other side of him in Walker. He hasn't had that since his rookie year. Walker was eating up double teams that let Allen work 1 on 1. In previous seasons it was "just double Allen because we aren't worried about anybody else". Allen was one step behind him.

Allen also had a sack taken away from him due to a bogus roughing the passer penalty in the Buffalo game. Walker also had a sack taken away due to a weak [BLEEP] intentional grounding call in the 49ers game. (01-28-2024, 11:06 PM)Eric1 Wrote:(01-28-2024, 11:03 PM)Jag149 Wrote: True that. I believe from reading Baalkies face he doesn't like negotiating when he has so little ammunition. He appears to a bit of a smart [BLEEP], saying we are far apart, then correcting to they had not begun yet. Think that irritated Allen. Allen checks all the boxes as a citizen, teammate etc.

I wanted to extend him for the right price. You dont you know what we could of extended him for last year, none of us do. Try to work out a deal that's good for both sides, make him a top 5 edge and if he's asking to be the highest paid player tag him. If he has another year like this year then talk again next year. The tag is there for a reason.(01-28-2024, 10:32 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote: Read it it again, i didnt say you wanted to, i said you would have. I was one of the ones that wanted to extend Allen last year as well but there is always a limit on any player. So you wouldnt make Allen the highest paid defensive player in NFL history? As far as Yawn, we do know what he was offered. It wasn't some "rumor" tweet that came from a fan. Tom Pellisaro reported the offer and Yawn turned it down. It wasn't long after, he fired his agent when he realized how much money he lost and he made a huge mistake. Way more than he was worth, we were going to make him the 4th highest paid DE yet he wanted more. " Pay Yawn whatever he wants" lol (01-28-2024, 11:24 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote:(01-28-2024, 10:53 PM)Eric1 Wrote: So I didn't want to, but I would have? Makes zero sense.. The tag is there for a reason. More people wanted to ship Allen off before the deadline than not. It was weeks worth of nonsense people were spewing about him not being any good because he doesn't average 12+ sacks a season etc etc. Also, what a plan that is.. Lets piss off one of our best players by tagging Allen for this season. If he has another season like this one they can then talk next off season. So yea, let's piss him off and only continue to drive the price up even more by delaying it again. Then not only do we have to worry about Lawrence's mega deal, we also have to worry about Allen's mega deal in the same off season.. That's [BLEEP] brilliant. Ok then lets see this tweet by Tom then. Does it show the amount, the years, the guarantees? Lets see it. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

I think making him an offer that would make him a top 5 edge is fair and if that passes him off because he wants to be the highest paid defender in the league than fine. I mean he had a great season but he's never even made All Pro. Do you know how many great players get tagged? You're the only person with the thought stuck in his head the he only wants to be the highest paid Defensive player in the NFL for your argument. As for that Yan stuff, yea not surprising. A short term contract with likely very little guarantees in the league that's all about how much guaranteed money you can make. There's a reason why the guaranteed amount always comes 1st, the years amount 2nd and the total $$ 3rd. There were also rumors that those numbers were leaked by the Jags front office to try and make them look better, which I'd agree. Makes them look good on the surface, but they keep the actual numbers very vague. (01-29-2024, 12:02 AM)Jag149 Wrote:(01-28-2024, 11:53 PM)flgatorsandjags Wrote: I don't remember that many people. Doubtful. You have to remember that was when Coughlin was back in the building and trying to run this franchise into the ground again. Playing hardball with his players and low balling them with [BLEEP] contracts. Was the same boat for Allen Robinson etc. Also the players hated Coughlin and that sadly was one of the things that bonded this team in that 2017 playoff run out of spite. It was likely a decent amount guaranteed being it was a shorter deal, he just thought he was worth more and he would of actually been overpaid. He never got contract close to that after. He knew he made a mistake not taking it looking back and why he fired his agent. He lost about 30 mil he will never get back. Can you post a credible link or tweet that's not by some Jags fan saying it was leaked out by the front office?

Baalke just said the team needs to be more physical. He didn't accept blame for it, but he also didn't blame Doug. He said nothing, basically, so try to feel nothing about it.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

And don't worry fans will move the goal posts to be certain he falls short.
We've improved year over year since he's gotten here. 10+ and the playoffs do seem needed. But I guarantee even with we'll have discussions about how he's not the guy to get us to the Superbowl just to break the hump to the playoffs. |
