Risner was a FA last year when we needed a G and we didnt sign him.  Risner went to Min. and beat out the guy we just signed to a big contract.  Risner doesnt fit the type of guard the staff wants or we would of signed him last year.

He didn't beat him out, Cleveland was hurt with a broken foot. They traded him because A. he was hurt, and B. he wasn't going to resign with them.

They could have kept Cleveland if they felt he was better.  When Cleveland was healthy they liked Risner better so they traded Ezra. 

 Cleveland never said he wouldnt resign with the Vikings.  They didnt think he was worth what it would cost to resign him and they felt they had a better guard in Risner.

Yeah I know Fortner isn’t good, people seem to generally be complaining that we haven’t tried to improve the OLine. That’s just not true.
Personally I think Morse is going to make the line significantly better this year. So I agree and injury to him would be a disaster

Which leads to the conclusion, that I alluded to earlier, that the staff is the problem.

Besides Morse and Foster, what have those others done? How have they played? Cam and Anton are starters with quality. The rest are just guys, at best. Little is good depth.

Just because we drafted Fortner with a 3rd doesn't mean he is a good player - just like the corollary exists as well. 

However, we know what kind of player Fortner is and if you will hang your hat on remaining complacent with him, Robinson teetering along Goodell's gavel while becoming a F/A, and others aging along that front - then Trevor and our team will not succeed in any way possible. 

It's an offensive league and we need a steady stream of strong competition to ensure our franchise QB can succeed and remain healthy.

I don't wish to see Fortner starting another game for the Jags, but imo that's a far cry from saying the Jags can't win with him as the snapper.     The Jags have beaten good teams over the past two seasons with Fortner as the every game starter.   Won the division once, and almost upset the Super Bowl winners in a playoff game.


He's below average, but he's good enough to be a backup to Morse.

Yes but Trevor has taken a beating the last few years.  You can win games while Trevor continues to take hit after hit.  It will catch up to Trevor in the long run and we want to see him not take so many hits and Fortner has been the biggest problem along with the LG spot.

We had 3 tackles last season and the rest were basically turnstiles when they were not on their arses.  Why we kept any of them I can't fathom.

To get back to the draft...I agree that drafting a guard (Mahogany) that is an upgrade to Cooper Hodges is a need.

Not discounting that.

My comments are about using the draft pick on a CENTER when that player won't start this season OR next...and the Jags currently have 3 players on their squad that are probably better options this year AND next at the center spot.   That's all.   

And if I'm honest... I'm still holding out hope that the Jags at least still have Conner Williams on their radar as a free agent pickup for NEXT season. (if he doesn't retire)
