The shitshow that is going to take place if Trump gets re=elected is going to be epic. At this point, I'm almost hoping he doesn't get re-elected, so I don't have to listen to these same moderates [BLEEP] when Trump goes after every single democrat who's broken the law. It's going to ruin what's left of our public trust in our Republic. This whole thing is a debacle.

C'mon man, it's past time for this to happen. You rail about corruption then hesitate when the fix for it comes along. It's time to toss the whole thing and reinstitute what we stated with; a weakened federal government run by the States that only focuses on national concerns as outlined in the Constitution.

Almost is the operative word there. It needs to happen. I'm just not sure he's the right guy to do it. No matter what, it's going to be brutal.

We almost all saw it live. There were bad actors there, certainly. Two things can be true at once. January 6th wasn't an insurrection, and there were some violent, angry people there. Hell, even if they found a few people who were actively conspiring to take over the government of the US, it doesn't make J6 an insurrection. 

I guess my point is that we don't need to paint it as an entirely peaceful day to say that Marty and Mike's interpretation of the events are incomplete and slanted. In fact, we do better by just owning the warts of it. Yeah, some people broke windows and shoved cops. Yes, there was yelling, and climbing and breaching. Yes, some of them wanted to stop the certification. You're talking a small, small fraction of the entirety. Those people got all the coverage. The news fixated on ratings, not truth. The 3 letter agencies were also heavily involved. At least some of the more disturbing images and known antifa affiliates involved. Yes, some right wingers got drawn in by that and carried away. 

By and large, it was just people upset at our government for turning a blind eye to their concerns, who marched on Washington, walked through the Capitol building, and went home. Yet, for some reason, moderates are duped into equivocating the actions of the 1% (if that), with those of the many, effectively lumping a genuine movement in with the radicals.

If I'm a teacher, and I'm beating a child on camera, and then a cop shows up and just stands aside while I continue to beat the child, does that mean it was right for me to beat the child?

The Oxford definition of hubris is excessive pride, exactly as I said.  If a person is right, it is not excessive for them to be proud of being right, unless the thing they're right about is something everyone knows, like 2 + 2 = 4. Here there are many people who are wrong about J6 so it is not excessive for me to be proud of being right about it.

He told them to go to the Capitol.  He told them to cheer for the lawmakers they agreed with and jeer the ones they didn't agree with.  How are they going to do that when the building was locked, no visitors were allowed, and no projection screen was set up outside?

You have to get really technical and feign stupidity to claim that it wasn't Trump's fault that people started assaulting cops to try to break into the building.
