You would think by now. Especially in today's political climate, both, geopolitically and domestically, that, every time the President and his or her entourage or any potential President to be next in line is out and about?

EVERYBODY is on high alert and ready to rock and roll. It's wild to think there's people this relaxed in these positions or lackadaiscal with their role.

If this was during the days of King's and Queen's? Good chance that whole vanguard would have been sent to the chopping block the next morning or placed in the darkest depths of their dungeon.

But, no, it's 2024. "Ho hum".

That's not my point at all.
I'm not saying they are or were "ho hum"
Because I don't know what actually went wrong yesterday.
What I do know is they never shoot first.
They cover the target first.
They didn't have to shoot first.
They just had to run up the stage right stairs and hustle Trump away to the left before any shots were fired.
Why did they fail? Hopefully we get an explanation.

Unless you're saying that the powers that be intentionally left the proverbial door open knowing one of their kook allies would eventually come along uncoerced and of his own volition and take advantage?  That might have more legs.

They talked to some of his classmates who said he was picked on all the time.

I wonder if they were this brutal to him.

The internet never misses. It's also odd. How quickly anything and everything, no matter how heavy the gravity is of the situation.

It just gets meme'd into the ground. AI makes it even more interesting now. Completely desensitized as a society.

Spooky really.

My "ho hum" comment was more in reference towards how lackluster the consequences seem to be in today's society for lackadaiscal work.

Also, if they NEVER shoot first? What in the hell is the point of having security, survelliance and an entourage then?

After the candidate or protected official is covered, they might shoot the intruder/suspect before he shoots them.
But getting Trump surrounded and offstage needed to happen instantly as soon as anyone suspected something was wrong.  It's what they should do for anyone they're protecting.

What a [BLEEP] SOP.

Makes zero sense. Half our police force fires first when they see a CLEAR suspect with a gun drawn.

Like I joked about earlier. "Let them pop my head like a zit with a pew pew first and then you can protect me".

Defeats the entire purpose of security....

Do most police forces have a rooftop sniper detail?

Do most police forces have a rooftop sniper detail?
Do most police forces protect a former President or leading candidate?

It's just a really, really stupid [BLEEP] SOP.

A man with a long range rifle has a scope and is looking at the President through it.

Why would you wait? Where's the logic in that? If someone broke into your home, are you going to wait for them to punch you in the face? Shoot you? Your wife? Your child?

If you were seeing someone with a gun waving it at you or aiming it at you? Are you going to give them a Gentleman's Agreement?

Just assume it's all for show? He's not serious?

I mean, come on. Where is the [BLEEP] logic here?

The article says they don't want to end up shooting a guy who just had a telescope or a camera.
This is the wrong thing to focus on.  SS has to guard events in all types of environments.
They can not allow the President (or the candidate) to enter an area with any question mark or uncertain situation. If an unknown suspicious guy is discovered, they just have to get the man (or woman) out of there and figure out if it's a gun or a camera later.

Kids can get drones at the store for less than $50 that could have been very useful here.  It's a wonder there weren't several in the air that could have spotted him and ID'd the gun minutes earlier.  That poor family that lost a father might have been spared.

Once again.

I hate people.

Your logic is awful. This is why people hesitate and get killed.

If a trained marksman (multiple actually), with easily a more superior rifle and scope at his disposal is unable to identify some prick with another rifle basically a full football field away?

We have a problem. I understand the SOP. It is what it is. It needs to be revised effective today and immediately redefined this week.
