But she took it in her own direction. I liked it overall but the ending was a bit drawn out. I’ve heard that people who read the novel didn’t like the movie much but I thought it was fine. I didn't like it at all. We watched it last weekend. The storyline droned on, the ending was anti climatic, Dakota Fanning was okay I guess acting wise. I had not seen her in anything in a long time. Didn't know it was based on a novel. I also hate how predictable it was. I won't spoil it, but, the fact that one of them group members that Dakota Fanning's character encounters ends up being who I predicted they would be is bothersome. I hate predictive stories and patterns. I even made a comment about it during one scene where Dakota begins revealing her background and she's LITERALLY being "watched" intently and closely. I give the Director some credit there for that particular moment, but, it was the biggest tell and confirmation I needed regarding that particular character in reference. The equivalent of when Martin Sheen's character in the movie "Arrival" finds out that the boy that was following him around was one of them. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I've seen that movie so many times I could probably quote more than half of it by heart, but seeing it in 4k blew my mind.. It's all the detail that you really don't get to see with standard pixelation or even standard HD.. I rewatch a lot of these movies in 4k that I've seen many times over. Add that I'm totally hooked on watching movies with the subtitles on now, plus 4k, it's like watching a different movie than what you actually remember. Lots of goodies gets left out in lower definition and actors mumbling important lines. Lol Kubrick was the man. The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, A Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut & 2001: A Space Odyssey. Growing up in the 90's as a boy. Virtually all of his movies were always on schedule with Starz or Showtime on cable. Especially during the summer. They don't make them like they used to. Would have loved to have seen Kubrick make a movie or two or some type of film project with Gary Oldman or Daniel Day-Lewis. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? You mentioned Dakota Fanning so I assume we did. I didn’t find it all that predictable (and I’m particularly good at predicting plots) because the ultimate revelations were so far off from where the movie starts, and if anything, the connections are a little implausible. It’s not a flawless movie by any stretch and it’s too long but the concept was interesting. You probably haven’t watched many of M Night’s movies.

No, that's the thing. I have. I know it's a meme, but, I actually liked The Happening. It had a lot of shock value with the two kids on the porch getting blasted by a Shotgun and then people offing themselves or others left and right. Was pretty wild to me at the time as a kid when it first came out. I think Signs is still fantastic, I loved how every little subtle "sign" was there and revealed from the daughter's fear of drinking water, the son's asthma, and the biggest one, his wife's dying words being "swing away, tell Merle to swing away". All of that came together brilliantly in a revelation to Mel's character to finish it out. The alien reveal with the news station and video was also chilling. One of the best movie moments for me in general. Great moment. I also really enjoyed The Village. That reveal was great. The casting was great. The premise was great. Really nice finish to that one. Lastly, of course, Unbreakable & Signs. With Bruce Willis. I enjoyed both of those movies. The stories were compelling, the characters were full of life and complexity while facing hardship. The Watchers just fell flat for me I guess. I get the concept. It's a modern take on an ancient story/classic. I can respect that. It was just a little off the mark is all I guess with some of the cast. Big reveal didn't surprise me though. Like I said, the "tell" was too easy to confirm my suspicion from the beginning with that particular character. For some reason, the hair was a dead give away to me and that look she gave her outside while banging on the door. I am into ancient Celtic tales and mythology though, so, maybe that played a hand in it. I knew right away where it was going when they found that sigil in the ground. In fairness. M. didn't write nor direct this movie. He only produced it. I might go check out "Trap" with Josh Hartnett next week though with my wife on date night. That might be good. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. He recently did an episode on Black Mirror on Netflix last year or the year before with Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad and Kate Mara as the love interest/wife in that episode. Was really good for 80 minutes. The story was cool, the premise was cool, the concept was cool. The characters were well rounded and thought out. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. There was a very short lived TV show that was filmed in Jacksonville and it was cool but also weird to see on TV the Modis building, the Landing, the Fuller Warren and Main Street bridges in the downtown shots as well as other areas. I can't remember the name of the show. I don't think it lasted a season. (09-06-2024, 08:09 PM)americus 2.0 Wrote:(09-06-2024, 04:50 PM)RicoTx Wrote: Point of interest to probably nobody but me. It was filmed back in the 90s, originally as a TV movie then a follow up series. I used to watch it just to see how many locations I recognized, lol. The series itself was pretty forgettable I think.

He is all over the place at times. I compare The Watchers to something like Lady In The Water which got a lot of similar criticism, but I liked it. Signs is probably my favorite. I know his daughter directed Watchers but M Night was executive producer and a creative consultant, I'm sure she took a lot of her cues and influences from her dad. Also, you have to remember this was her first feature, I agree she made some mistakes but for me the atmosphere had the things I like from others he's done. I wasn't familiar with the Irish mythology which may have made a difference.

Absolutely, Mr. WingerDinger ... Nobody is one of those movies that you know nothing about, which then leads to a great surprise. Ive watched it twice. Also, another movie that I deem as pleasantly surprised of is "Wanted" with Angelina Jolie. Another older movie that I also knew nothing about before enjoying it was "Real Men" with Jim Belushi and John Ritter.
Certainly, if you haven't watched Wanted I think you will find it to be another obscure pleasant find. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
We watched Civil War last night. That's not the best title for that movie because though there is a civil war going on, that's not the main point of the movie. It's actually about four journalists who are trying to get from NY to DC and what they encounter on the way. If you know that going in you won't be too disappointed. If you think it's going to be about what happened to start it and the fight you will absolutely be disappointed.
It wasn't bad for what it was but it's not in the top 100 movies I've seen or even like. I do appreciate the fact that most of the soldiers in the scenes are veterans. It gives those scenes a level of authenticity that is definitely lacking when it's a bunch of actors. The Bang Bang Club is a much better movie showing the effects of combat on combat photographers and is based on the true life experiences of four combat photographers.
Just watched an absolute favorite of mine..(1983) Bad Boys, with Sean Penn and Esai Morales. Gotta be in my top 5 of all time.
We saw Speak No Evil last Friday. Was pretty good. James McAvoy continues to play the psycho role very well.
