The Trivial Annoyances Thread

Male counter workers and waiters (and it is always a male) that insist of calling me 'boss'.  I'll also get an infrequent 'chief', which is equally annoying.

Then you have the female version that insist on calling people honey, sweetie, or baby.

And a new one that is creeping in there is, 'is there anything else for us?'  Us?  You're not eating with me as far as I know.  The best I've heard is, "what can we get us?"  Huh?

Whatever happened to 'yes sir' and 'no sir' from service staff?

(Can you tell I went out for breakfast this morning?)

Well…not really. If a waiter were to call a female patron honey, sweetie or baby, he’ll be keel hauled .

From a waiter to a heterosexual male, boss and chief are ok, honey, sweetie and baby, not so much.

Thanks for the respect, but it's "Supreme Leader" to you.

My wife and I hardly went out to eat when our kids were that age.  I don't know what the appeal is to do so for the parents.  Same thing with Jags game.  I've seen newborns brought to the game.   The child isn't bothering me in this setting.  The parents' judgement is though.  Just sell your tickets and stay home for christ's sake.

But a heterosexual male wouldn’t freak out if a waitress called them that.

LOL.  Is that a question or a statement?

I travel into the northeast frequently and find it's a much more common occurrence in the south.  In my experience, it's also used more often by older waitresses.

The "boss" thing kind of annoys me as well as "bro" or "brother".  On the other hand I don't mind when a female calls me "honey", "sugar", "sweetie" or whatever.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

I like being called King [BLEEP] when I go out. I demand my waiter calls me this. If they call me Sir I pull the assuming my gender card and go temporarily Karen to see if they panic and then I tell them to relax. If I am really up for it? I live for these moments:

"What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. The subtle tongue, the sophist guile, they fail when the broadswords sing; Rush in and die, dogs - I was a man before I was a king."

Well, I automatically assume she wants to have sex with me at that point.

Am I jumping to conclusions?

What's the proper tip percentage for that service?
