Not sure but I would guess he will be. The thing I like most about Ben Johnson is that he plays to his players strengths. Goff has always thrown those dig routes really well and throws over the middle well so they scheme those up. They target ARSB a lot on a bunch of different routes and give DMont and Gibbs their touches too.(11-11-2024, 04:59 PM)carp8dm Wrote: Blank checks are the best checks. Seriously, though... LaFleur, McVay, Shannahan, McDermott, Reid, Ryans, KOC.... Gotta take your shot but I am very over the old retread head coaches. I want someone who will play to Trevors strengths and I want an OC as my HC so that there isn't much turnover if the future OC leaves to take a HC job. I like Liam Coen, Ben Johnson, Mike LaFleur. I would also kick the tires on Ben Grubb and Todd Monken (I know he's older but man he's done so good in Baltimore).

Nobody knew how good the rookie QB would be. What makes you think Washington was a great job? Kingsbury has Daniels playing at a level nobody thought he would be playing at. Washington didn't look like a very good job at all and just shows you what coaching can do. He has been in the league for 10 years and experienced the Dolphins owner/FO shenanigans. He is probably well aware that most coaches get 1 chance. So he knows what he is looking for and if he sees issues he wants additional security (like more money from Carolina). Those are not necessarily bad things. The increase in performance would be exponential. My big thing about Ben Johnson/Lions offense is that offense is revolved around Montgomery/Gibbs and one of the best offensive lines in football. We have yet to see an opposing team shut down that run game. Now, the Texans did a damn good job against the run. didn't shut it down, but were damn good. BEST we have seen a defense against their running offense. Forced Goff to throw, and he threw 5 interceptions while going 15/30. Everyone knows to beat the Lions you need to shut down their run heavy offense, but it's more of a matter if can you. Texans lined up and did a SOLID job. This is why in the playoffs I think this offense will flop this year. My point is, I really don't know how good Johnson is. If you are successful running the ball, like most great offenses, passing becomes easy. Lions have attempted the 4th least pass attempts this season, due to a much improved defense and that run game. For me the best OC option is Liam Coen. The job he has done with Baker is phenomenal.

Washington was a very unique circumstance - new ownership, complete restart at the most important position, and a heap of uncertainty. I'd have been just as tenuous to make my first venture into head coaching that job, too. Don't blame him for asking for the moon from Tepper, it would take a whole lot to subject oneself to a guanopsychotic owner who is likely going to meddle and get in your way more than you'd like, or be super volatile with changing leadership. Where we stand, it's best to give everyone a look, a chance to make their claim to the job. I don't really care if a guy interviews well if he can get results on the field (ever listen to Belichick address the media?). On the same token, you don't want a smooth talking snake oil salesman who promises the world and delivers a marble. He isn't the only one here banging this drum, and in light of the conversation being had (drop a blank check in the visiting locker room postdated to Jan 6), I don't see this call-out necessary. Yes TDC responded to his post, but I got a more general reply to the conversation vibe than picking nits with the quoted post. Maybe I'm just enjoying my coffee, though. TLDR, do we need to poke and start another back and forth?

If Pederson gets fired after the Lions game, who becomes interim HC? Both coordinators suck so bad neither one of them should even be interim HC.

Honestly, in this market I think we are going to be stuck with going 2nd tier retread. A Josh McDaniels, Robert Saleh, Adam Gase, Brandon Staley type. We arent getting the hot new coordinator if they have the choice of a bigger market. Maybe we can lure Darrell Bevell away from Miami.

Now with an offense that averages 20-22 ppg and a defense like it is that bar may not be real high.
