Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

Hoping that Trevor has a speedy recovery from this, I really do

Having said that, I’ve got other serious non-concussion related concerns about #16. It’s getting to the point that I’m not sure if he could ever get over the hump. It’s year 4 and Trevor’s peak is like “Average Kirk Cousins”

For the record,  I have been a TL guy since day one and have defended him to naysayers in my life,  but that is getting harder

I was concerned about his inconsistent accuracy coming out of college but was assured he’d become more consistent in the pros. Well, here we are. He also lacks a certain degree of field vision. He’s not terrible at it but he misses open receivers more often than you’d like for someone with his level of talent and experience.

But he’s going to be our franchise QB for at least the next four or five years so we need to learn to accept it.

Yeah, he lacks situational awareness as well. Sonetimes you gotta take the 5 yards the defense gives you and live to see a manageable down. Too many forced balls into double coverage.

It’s not a decision you want the owner to make. But it’s pretty hard to justify Lawrence even being in that game yesterday. If you’re an owner and you step in to sit a player, you might as well drop the people making those decisions as well. Since he’s so timid about doing that, I doubt he’ll be making player/personnel decisions either.
He might plan on firing Doug and Baalke on black Monday, we don't know for sure.  Khan is the one writing the checks and Doug likely won't be here next here so Khan could step in, talk to Doug and tell Doug we need to sit Trevor the rest of this year to get healthy since we are eliminated for the playoffs.  Now he has a brain injury along with the shoulder that might need surgery.

What changed?

Maason Smith played, Armistead was inside a bunch more, and saw some blitzes so the defense wasn't unwatchable this week. They also ran the ball pretty effectively after Lawrence got hurt, haven't seen that at all this year. Saw Washington get a bunch of looks too. None of this stuff matters all that much in the lost season, but it was a few things that looked different this week.

Yes we have.  Against the Colts we ran the ball 25 times in a row and they couldn't stop it.  There has been a few games where Tank had very good success on the ground.

I think in this situation, with a lame duck coach who is not going to be here for the rest of Trevor's career, the owner should step in and make that decision.

Agree, Trevor's health is more important than Doug trying to get a couple late season wins at 2-10 when he won't even be here next year.

Just think if someone hit Press like that. Doug would have been out there throwing hands.

Tank was 13 for 101, ETN was 6 for 17. Bigsby had 1 for 65 that was the majority of that, half the rest of his carries went for 3 or less with 2 of them losses. There was no point where the run game was dominant and "they couldn't stop it", they actually stopped almost all of it. Maybe give a cursory look at the box score before you pop out your nonsense?

I meant the Pats game.  I don't need the box score I watched the game.

Lol, the problem with that is your brain interprets what you see, and we've read how poorly that works out for you. I mean, it REALLY seems like you should look at the box score occasionally since you don't even remember which game you were trying to be snarky about. It's not like there's a ton to choose from either, they've been horrific at running the ball all year. But nah, it's more important to you to disagree with me than to be accurate.

Tank has had a few successful games on the ground.

Wow, I'm really impressed by your ability to recall facts when you take the time to look it up.

The running game is [BLEEP], end of story.

As a Texans fan, I can say I reacted very negatively when I saw that dirty hit, particularly when I re-watched it and saw Lawrence clearly sliding before it occurred. There's nothing that defends that decision of Al-Shaair's. I'm hoping that he's suspended for 2+ games and fined out the wazoo. It's obviously not fair that the Jags lost 2 people and the Texans only 1, but at least in Al-Shaair's case he is the main caller for the defense so it'll take a toll on the Texans whole defense. Hopefully that effect on the whole defense should apply some peer-pressure to boot. At the end of the day, all the league can do is take away his money and game time and hope that discourages other hits like that.

I agree that the rule for off-setting penalties needs to be modified. I saw someone say that the result of the play should have stood, and then the after-play penalties should have offset. I'd even add in that the down shouldn't have counted either, giving the Jags 1st and 1, but again losing your QB clearly isn't worth a favorable down and distance. I'm hoping Trevor heals up and comes back without any ill effects from his concussion.

It was still 6-0 with no production from the offense when Trevor got blasted. SSDD.
